Some movement in Washington state. Gov. Inslee is removing outdoor mask mandates next week. Nothing yet on indoor masking. Masks are currently required for outdoor gatherings of over 500.

    Powerful, pro-mask, teacher's union.

The tidal wave is on. States are rushing to either modify their mask rules, or setting press conferences to tell everyone they're discussing when to lift their mask rules. This all despite the fact there has been no change in the advice from the White House and CDC.

In the NYTimes today, Dr. Varma, who was the Covid adviser to de Blasio and helped guide NYC’s pandemic response, says he still has an idea of what objective metric should be used to determine when mask rules should end in schools ("when there’s universal vaccination among kids and adults in schools, hospitalizations have been stable or declining for at least four weeks and rapid tests and high-quality masks are abundant and free for anyone who wants one in school"). But states that "since we are unlikely to reach these levels soon, the next best option is for governors and mayors to decide what to do."

The mask issue is now 100% political. No politician wants to be seen as overly restrictive on masks as their constituency transforms from pro-mask, to anti-mask.

This is a very confusing sentence. Are you being sarcastic or do you really think the only thing that can cause a 102 fever in a two year old is covid?

Dr Eric Feigl-Ding posted a Twitter thread today about covid severity (specifically omicron) and kids. Most of it was focused on kids 0-4 and hospitalization rates in the US, South Africa, and Denmark. The Denmark data included a graph showing current hospitalization rates of children age 0-2 being higher than age group 65-79 and lower than 80+. He also includes the data for the increase in death rate in England in children, especially young children, for December and January.

Anti vaxers and dead people with covid are a dime a doz nowdays but my big takaway ftom that artical is that they were pointing out the college of physicians were not doing their job and it sez as much in the lead sentance

Maybe they think all the kids are being raised by their elderly grandparents

    Is that racist?

Masks on school kids makes no real world sense to me. The real reasons for pushing this go into conspiracy theory territory

A fair amount of teachers are older folks or other high risk. Being in the same 20 by 20 room with 30 people for 6 hours delivers a lot of viral load if one or more has COVID. Not the same as most other jobs where people come and go intermittently.

Being a vaxer I won't argue with that ^^ but the article in question was specificaly about whether the college of physicians in BC are doing their job and it brings up a case of 2 particular rogue MDs who were not from Terrace (where i don't live) doing a traveling anti vax road show

I'm guessing there is some wires crossed, standby for SJG to clarify.

I filed a formal complaint with the California Medical Board against that jackass Stanford radiologist disinformationist that Trump hired. They were not interested.
And yes, Stanford jackass is redundant.

So y’all figure this is a viable way forward? Mask school age kids

Really. How well do you think the mask protocol has been going?

You have mainstreamed cooties. And the kids treat it about the same
