Triple Moderna vaxxed wife came home last night and suddenly started experiencing all kinds of sinus/allergy symptoms. Took one of the the BinaxNow at home tests we have in the medicine cabinet...negative. Shrug. Went on with our night normally. Venison and veggies then to bed. She woke up feeling fine.

Decided to replace that test today so we have a few on hand. Amazon sold out immediately after I bought my last two boxes (2 tests each) and I only knew about those because I follow some amazing covid experts on Twitter. Walgreens down the road shows they have some in stock. Jump in car and drive to store and stock guy pulls one of 4 out of box just off truck which is still unloading at the dock behind the store, tells me that one is my limit. Girl at cash register gets wide eyes and congratulates me for being on it and scoring. Looks like she is on her way to grab one after I leave.

Flashback to a couple weeks ago, double Moderna vaxxed stepson showing allergy symptoms congestion, coughing, sneezing which is normal for him but concerning. Tell him to mask in common areas until we have a test result or he stops being such a snotty mess (nicer than that). He gets bent out of shape over it because to him it is 100% allergies but my daughter is unvaxxed so deal with it dude pretty please. He barely shows his face anyway. Buy him hepa filter for his room and he improves so we relax and let him breath on us. Next available appointment for a rapid test is 3 days away. Friday to Monday. Monday night late he gets results and is negative. 3 days wasted and unnecessary aggravation.

How long have we been in this pandemic? Total fail.

Happy to read the Biden administration is finally, finally, putting a billion dollars behind rapid at home tests.

Canada prime minister announces you can no longer fly on commercial airlines or visit long term care residents unless you are fully vaxxed (starting at end of the month). A negative test is not adequate if you are otherwise eligible for vaccines.

Reading the comments in the Wapo article these at home tests are $1 each in the UK. I paid $24 for 2 so $12 each. 1200% more. That is actually probably better than most things. Merica!

But hey, they are FSA eligible at least as long as I save the receipt and remember to submit the expense.

    From a NY Times article.

"Pfizer’s trial included 2,268 children ages 5 to 11, two-thirds of whom received two doses of the vaccine three weeks apart; the rest were injected with two doses of saltwater placebo."

Meanwhile in Colorado, free at home tests have actually been available since June. (It's been in the news more recently, but they were available earlier as well) My wife and I each order a set every 3 weeks. Currently, we have over 20 tests in our cabinet - needed for two kids and daycare.

On the other hand, the only way to get a nasal PCR test around here is with a referral. And our idiotic pediatrician's office charges $120 to get that referral no matter what.

So, knowing what we know, can we spread those kids Pfizer doses to 30 days to get the better boost? Shouldn't void the vax card for travel hopefully right?

Seems like a no brainer. But I know we'd need another billion dollars worth of study to make it official.

Colorado. Home of the free. Land of the brave.

Too bad I live in one of the armpits of the nation.

Iowa is an absolute shithole and getting worse everyday.

This is the first I've heard about someone getting a Moderna booster. Didn't even know this was a possibility yet.

It is possible under a few, far narrower set of circumstances than Pfizer (which is open to about anybody if you use community exposure as your reason) ...if you have a condition or take drugs (her excuse) that suppress your immune system. If you go to CDC website they spell it out. All with the explicit approval of her arthritis doctor...but she still just gave them the verbal and they jabbed her at CVS. Walgreens wouldn't do it.

Let's plan ahead for the next big battle 6mo-1year from now... What is going to be the future threshold from the time of your last booster to when your vaccination record is considered "dated" and in need of a boost?

Let's skip the battle and go straight to betting on it. If you're ready to put your money on the line I'm ready to take it. How much do you want to give me?

My father’s friend rec’d Moderna “booster” (#3). She was recommended to do so by her primary care for various reasons (I don’t know what they were). She went to a drug store and got it. In southern CA.

I'm sure it will depend on the prevalence of COVID-19 in a given society. If we're down to a low case count then maybe we won't be expected to have a booster to fly...if we have a bunch of numbskulls refusing to get vaccinated still and cases remain relatively high I would could see needing to demonstrate one has a booster.
Damn shame, throwing away a perfectly good white boy like that

An update to the earlier discussion: United Airlines says very few employees resisted its vaccine mandate — in the end they fired only 232 of 67,000 workers as 300 additional people changed their minds at the last minute and got vaccinated.

Glad to see United Airline flight attendants are more intelligent than the Seattle Police (one third still not vaccinated with a 10/18 deadline) and Kaiser health care workers (2,200 of 216,700 not vaccinated).

Now can we get the feds to mandate vaccination for domestic air travel? I'm pretty sure a not-insignificant number of people will cave with that type of mandate.

And warn everyone that it's going into effect the week before T'giving - meaning people will have plenty of time to get their shit together.

Stats for our local health system. Note the emphasis on unvaccinated.

Absolutely. Even more important since the douchebags who don't want to wear masks over their noses are making life miserable for crew and passengers who have to tippy toe around their fragile egos as to not piss them off and cause an air rage incident. These are the same selfish know it all geniuses that refuse the vaccine.

There is no good reason that this hasn't happened already. I chalk it up to Biden trying to walk the line. So dumb. Just do what makes sense and let the anti's deal with it.

As posted above this is what Canada announced today. No domestic air travel for the unwashed. I bet airline staff are celebrating or at least exhaling away their anxiety about having to face down “freedom fighters” with three Jack and cokes in the tank at 30,000 feet
