anyone who asks you? is that what it says? like, is the new policy that I can walk up to you on the street and demand your id?

    Disingenuous post is disingenuous.

Most bars you go into ask for an ID, how is this significantly different?

That's not how this works. It's for certain actviities, like indoor dining.
It's not like anyone on the street demanding id.
It's not like voting at all.

    We've been through this.

Let's see some indignation about the new voter restrictions in TX and GA rather than this.

Good to see the Conservative contigent finally going all in for support of Black Lives Matter.

Next let's extend the concern to cover a woman's right to choose, and we maybe can drag some awareness past events that were suppose to happen/happened 50-100yrs ago.

I don't worry much about showing ID in a pandemic in any case you don't have to go where they will ask you for ID

I went to an event where they carded everyone, you didnt have to go in , I was 46 at the time

It’s all really squirrelly. I have a really easy time empathizing with people afraid of an expansion of government power…loss of freedom, etc.

I think there’s honest arguments some of this stuff has the potential to be abused.

How about you go to a hotel.
Do you have to show id there? And do they want to swipe your creditcard. .... folks have no trust nowadays

Maybe there are honest arguments. Too bad we're not really getting them in this thread.

Do you have a smartphone? Your privacy and the potential for it to be abused is way more related to that than having an ID to go into a bar or restaurant or other place of private business.

This is the point...chip away at one "freedom" people start to get complacent. Then they chip away another and another......

I do, and I dont ever recall google seeing my DL# and other personal info that is contained on a DL/ID. Hell I have a REAL ID, that has tons of info on it I dont want just "anyone" seeing..

Not everyone has a cell phone either. Check those low income communities and rural communities I have referenced over and over...

I literally hand over this card with all my secret info on it to the checkout clerk at the grocery store every time I buy beer, to the server at the restaurant every time I order a drink, to the agent at the ticket counter at the airport, to the clerk at the hotel, how is that ok and nobody bats an eye at it, but doing the same thing for a different purpose (confirming vaccination status vs age or address or whatever) is suddenly some massive invasion of privacy?

If you think your DL# is somehow more private and letting someone see it for 3 seconds is more invasive than all the stuff google/apple/etc has on you, you're delusional.

Like chipping away private business/citizens' freedom to refuse service?

If it's post paid, you definitely gave them your social, and they ran a credit check on you. That's way more than your DL.

In Yurp, the first things is always the passport.
In the States, it's your credit card and id (drivers license or passport)

If you start on this angle with respect to voting, I'll listen.
    Priorities.

And granted, governments corrode from sheer indifference (to paraphrase William Burroughs).
But historically proof of vaccination, which has been and continues to be widely required, has not been abused.

    We have very different priorities.
Being vaxed is not my definition of VERY personal information.
    No apology here.

you all keep bringing that up..that we have always needed "vax status" and its simply not true...Yep...to go to PUBLIC school I had to prove status...NEVER have I had to prove ANY vaccination status in the USA besides that. We also know plenty avoid that in many states with exemptions. This is hardly a "rule".

In other news..kids are basically fucked..

You have to give a fingerprint to get into Disney. That scares me loads more than vaxx IDs.
