I'm trying to decide engine size from what I listed. 150-250 two stroke, YZ or SX, or a YZ/KX 250 four stroke. I'd love a 125 2t to regain confidence, but I'm 210lbs and riding at 5500-8000ft on the weekly basis. I had a 125 a few years back and sold because it's not enough power at altitude. I go down to sea level to ride monthly too, and the 450 is just ridiculous, but I don't go enough to justify another 125. Trying to find and "in-between" bike to get confident again, since I broke my neck.
The goldilocks bike you seek (assuming you're going to ride trails and not actual MX) is a 200. Snag a KTM 200exc if you can find one, or the new Beta if your pockets are a little deeper.
They are light, flickable, and the engine tune is friendly. At 210# you will be able to use all of the power regularly without scaring yourself.
ride bikes, climb, ski, travel, cook, work to fund former, repeat.
