    So how does doing something like this effect your ability to prove you've been boosted? I thought that was the reason they didn't want cards laminated. Boosters. Hows that card getting updated now?

    I have two cards because I forgot mine when I went for the second shot. It's fine.

    My wife went to Walgreens for her booster last night but they wouldn't give it to her unless she quit her medication for 6 months. The medication that is the reason she needs a 3rd shot. Stupid.

    She is going to try CVS this morning. They have a 3rd dose signup online and she got all approved for 9 am.

    I steer clear of any type of political discussion unless it is going to be intelligent thoughtful discussion (fuck arguing and posturing) don't do facebook or any other bullshit on the internet
    yesterday caught me off guard and I was stunned
    ran into this chick I know and asked her a few questions about her workplace covid policies and she starts rambling on how it's the millions of illegals that are coming into our country everyday unvaccinated carrying covid and all the other diseases are the problem I'm trying to bail and gtfo cause she is spewing all kinds of crazy shit at me as I'm trying to get away she says she doesn't need to be vaccinated because she's not like those other people that is the quick version

    I wanted to ask her to step back and think about every statement she made and was it true or not but I was the one that needed to step back and realize that being poor your whole life growing up in one of the most impoverished parts of the country in some run down trailer not finishing high school smoking a pack of cigarettes a day getting pregnant at age twelve is her reality and she can believe what she needs to

    I really think that the latent vulnerability that some have for kooky ideas and conspiracy theories, combined with the undercurrent of racism that many feel has been weaponized so that they can be driven to believe any crazy shit that the ruling class needs. This explains how literally anything can be a dividing line that people seem willing to die over.

    Apparently social cohesion and a sense that one has a responsibility to one's neighbors runs counter to the goal of maintaining power by a minority, so one side of the political divide just fans the flame of the hyper-individualistic thinking that disregards any sense of caring for one's neighbors (who are not exactly like them).

    Social media and an increased sophistication among those who would direct the mob are to blame.

    The mechanisms are clear, but they're accessible to way more than just a ruling class. These issues have multiplied because anyone can take advantage of a Facebook group to invent a new one.

    And yet they have a social cohesion of their own, like a battle weary platoon or a prison gang. The underdogs in the face of (mostly invented) tyranny.

    I don't recall if this was posted last year, but this tool is still operational and shows ICU capacity on the map. Pretty bleak down south:

    ^^ Florida being very, very far from mid-pack has been beaten to death. And yes, montucky joined with his comrade Ron in pretending Florida was doing fine; funny how all these guys come up with the same falsehoods at around the same time.

    Texas isn't in as bad shape as Florida, but still, really not doing so great. As of right now (NYT site that everybody already has a link to):
    - #10 in current case rate;
    - #8 in hospitalizations per population;
    - #6 in current death rate;
    - I'll leave out the raw number rankings even though they're worse, because Texas is such a big state so of course the raw numbers are high;
    - All-time numbers: Indeed, these are mid-pack, but rising.

    I'm sure this has been addressed somewhere in this thread, but would it be possible to modify the current vaccines to provide better protection from the delta variant?
