I'm back at work after feeling like shit for 9 days. Yesterday I felt a little better and even better today. Wasn't super sick, just had no energy at all. Feel like I lost 10 days of my life. Saw a lot of Olympics though.

So half of my building is not vaxed. I'm in a leadership role, so I really have to be careful what I say, but I'm having a hard time. Lady today came by my office to welcome me back and asked how I was feeling. Told her fine, mostly pissed at the non-vaxers (she's not vaxed). She sheepishly said she's still not sure yet. I just put my hand up and said, "I can't talk to you about that. It won't end well." And she said "OK" and left.

I'm hearing rumors my work will require vaccinations once the FDA approves it. Can't wait for that.

I can't speak for other states, but California DOES have a database, and a system for allowing consumers to prove vaccination status to a third party. (The system lets the person submit verifying information on a state website in order to receive a QR code, which they can store in their phone or on paper; that code can be offered as a special key to businesses who can then access the official DB as to the person's name and whether they're Covid-vaxxed, without the person needing to authenticate themself with other personal data.) The problem with this system is that very few people have registered for it (I have).

Requiring voter ID is racist mainly because of historical reasons. Ever since the 15th Amendment gave black people the right to vote various states have tried to find ways to disenfranchise them. Voter ID is simply the latest iteration. Proof of vaccination, on the other hand, is about public health. As far as I know there's no history of racist intent behind proof of vaccination, thus not racist.

That's pretty much the definition of systemic racism--when a policy or practice adversely affects a racial group without racist intent. In the case of proving vaccination the policy adversely affects black people and white supremacists.

The QR is just a slop-tolerant optical thing, so you should be able to store it using screen-capture, or perhaps by taking a picture of it on your computer screen.

So I got the J&J shot back in March. I went though this whole thing this year that I'm sure has left me immunocompromised, to some extent, for now at least, and my family has been leaning on me hard to get one dose of one of the other shots. Whats the consensus on this? My reading (but I haven't really been keepng up lately) indicates there's no point to this additional jab. What say yez?

Is the concern that there is little point to getting the next shot because medicines you are on will keep your body from having an immune response and therefore the vaccine will not be as effective? And if that's the case, then maybe your docs see little value in getting the vaccine?

Yes to anyone with a single dose vax, prime/boost works but it's not as gentle if the boost is active live viral infection and actual disease.

I was in the same boat as iceman and just got a Moderna shot to boost my J&J from April. I had zero side effects back then but the second shot laid me out for a day. It was worth it.

Pharmacies here are giving out shots to anyone who walks in. There are more than enough available in the US. Obviously we should be distributing them around the world but getting a booster now is definitely not taking them out of the arms of anyone in need.

Looks like SF General is on board with the boost protocol for J&J recipients.
