Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

Completely ignores the fact that vaccinated people are also getting the delta variant and then giving it to others. But keep believing that only the “anti-vax” people are the problem. Dumbass.

Hey it's mr mcshingles! Did you read the article you linked yet?

delta has an r value of 6. there are breakthrough cases, but they are breakthroughs because the vaccine is very effective. because vaccinated people are much more likely to resist infection, they will then not provide safe harbor for the virus compared to the unvaccinated who will both accept it and spread it much more readily.

what part is hard for you to understand?

hey, most of the time people drink and drive they don't even kill people, why even bother having a rule about that?! MUH FREEDUMBS!

FWIW, real world data suggests vaccinated people are 8X-to-15X less likely to be infected, and if infected are infectious for a shorter amount of time. Also, in Israel with its high vaccination rate R0 for delta is around 1 for the vaccinated and 4 for the unvaccinated so the higher the vaccination rate the lower the transmission rate.

While eradication may not be possible, with a high enough vaccination rate R0 will fall below 1 causing the disease to decline precipitously.

I'm still laughing about how CTEhockey33 kept on trying to drive home the same wrong point over and over again, sooo completely oblivious to how his very own citation completely contradicted his so-called thesis. I think he's still convinced it advances his argument.

    Fukkin' hilarious.

You guys better start with explaining basic statistics and reading comprehension if you want ole MTUHockey to understand what an r value is.

To be that wrong about it - and to hold that wrong idea with such conviction - and then to not acknowledge they actually didn’t know what the fuck they were talking about - and then to come back in here and ignore it and just keep posting…wow.

That is an ego that is in full on panic and protect mode.

I think you're looking for this data.

Can you share this real world data? All of the studies I'm seeing is showing lab transmission of delta is expected to be lower but real world (Israel, CDC--Cape Cod, Singapore) show similar infection rates, similar viral loads/shedding but shorter duration and less acute symptoms.....More asymptomatic

How do any of those give us a pathway to R0 < 1?

    Any thoughts on Lambda?

None of those places (Israel, Cape Cod, Singapore) are showing similar infection rates between vaccinated and unvaccinated. CDC slides from the Cape Cod event say 8X fewer among vaccinated, California data is currently 8X-15X fewer, and as I wrote in the post R0 in Israel is around 1 for the vaccinated and 4 for the unvaccinated.

Those numbers could change of course but so far vaccination still offers good protection against infection. This is what that looks like in Virginia for July where delta is the dominate variant (yellow line = breakthrough, black line = unvaccinated):

As far as a pathway to R0 < 1, we're unlikely to achieve it due to vaccination hesitancy but even if Covid is endemic vaccines make breakthrough cases behave like a common cold.

Also, don't rule out other medical advances. Lot's of people were skeptical when some of us said vaccines are coming sooner rather than later. We said that because we were following the science and the trials. The scientific-medical community is not standing still. There are more advances to come.

Obama to host Covid-compliant 60th birthday party amid rising virus concerns, source says

(CNN)Former President Barack Obama will celebrate his 60th birthday this weekend with a party in Martha's Vineyard, with many Covid-19 safety protocols in place amid heightened concerns over the Delta variant, a source familiar with the planning told CNN.

The event this weekend, which will be held outside, will follow all US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention public health protocols, the source said. There will be testing for guests and a Covid safety coordinator on site.
Martha's Vineyard, in Dukes County, is currently designated by the CDC as an area of "moderate" Covid-19 community spread.

Pretty sure you all would be losing your shit if it was a Repube holding the same "Covid compliant" event. Honestly, I don't give a crap. I LIKE seeing people get back to normal and party. Good on Obama! Seriously. Just getting a crack out of the free pass he gets from you guys. That's all.

Packed BLM rally = "Non-super spreader event. Nothing to see here."
Trump rally = "WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!!!"
Pride Parade = "Totes not a problem. In fact, it LOWERS cov rates!"
Sturgis = "RREEEEEEEEE! AAAAAHHH! WTF ARE THOSE GUYS DOING?! THEY'RE GONNA GET US ALL KILLLLLLED!"
Hudge Obama birthday bash = "Sooper Covid compliant. All good in the billionaire hood."
Small birthday party for an average family = "DO YOU WANT GRANDMA TO DIE?! WHHHHYYYYY DO YOU WANT TO KILL GRANDMA YOU SELFISH PRICK?!"

Again. I just have to laugh at the selective outrage.

If you turned off all your media sources there wouldn't be much outrage. You think you are being counter culture but all you are doing is showing your bias. Or you're just being the bitch you claim others to be. How about you tune out that gossip and be a cynical bastard like the rest of us and laugh at ALL the entertainment disguised as news? Start by getting off Facebook.

Obama's got an awesome party pad on Martha's while half of America couldn't come up with 400 dollars cash even with a gun to their heads, and millions are going to be evicted this month in the middle of a pandemic.

So, why was Trump president, and why could he be again?

You realize Obama isn't President, right?

If anyone could help the poor and soon to be evicted I'd say it would fall closer to your man Bernie than someone who has been out of the WH for going on 5 years now.
