Close, just west of the UP in northern Wisconsin. Good opportunities for former Mayors up here.

So I bought a freezer a while back and GE keeps sending me emails to extend the warranty. A lot of emails. I decided if they cared enough to send me so many emails they must be making a fortune on the warranties so I'd be better off just keeping my money and paying for repairs if needed.

Well, they're getting pretty shrill about it. They just sent me 6 emails at once. 6! wtf? Go away, GE!

(although I wonder if they have some way of remotely fucking up my freezer if I don't sign up. and that's annoying, too)

Yup, this is the reason the rent it. I've burned through 3 Comcast modems in the last 2 years, but my wifi router that is behind it is the real workhorse. If anything is slightly off, the modem goes back to them. No mercy, this is what you're paying for.

And whenever you see the actual line crew on the truck, ask them what they're up to. They're the guys that actually know what's going on with your service and they're generally good folks.
Wait, how can we trust this guy^^^ He's clearly not DJSapp

They do that because modern refrigerators don't last very long before a compressor goes. My old beer fridge is like 50 years old. Fuck GE

Trying to sell a car. Got a TON of replies and all but like 1 of them are obvious scammers. I go down this miserable road again because I have had success selling on there before, but geez it never goes without a ton of annoyance. Price it too high and you get nothing (obviously), price it too low because it's a junker that isn't worth much and people say "WhY iS IT sO CHeaP?! WhAt'S WroNG WiTH iT?!' I already said in the ad, morans. Price it just right and it's nothing but scammers for some reason. You just can't win. Most serious sounding guy ended up being a no-show yesterday. Grrrrr......

Went to CarMax to see what they'd say and it was the usual lowball offer, which I expected, but seeing their lot was depressing. Old, high mileage crappy cars with lots of wear are freaking EXPENSIVE these days. You'd think (real) people'd be all over a cheap used car like mine these days. I'm sure it'll sell, but still. I always hate selling cars because of the usual jokers you have to deal with.

You're LUCKY if it's a compressor these days. Seems that most modern fridges have insanely expensive electronic components that shit the bed before anything else. Looking at you, Samsung!!!

Yeah... I tried to get a simple, non-hideous fridge, and the main board as well as the defrost board have been replaced in the last 10 years. And the defrost is acting up again...

It's my Audi A4. I've talked about it extensively in the wrenching thread. Was a POS when I got it, but I got it mostly sorted out and it's actually a pretty good runabout these days! People ask "WhY So CheAp?!" And I am forthright with it's remaining issues and high mileage. I'm asking more than I would have a year ago, but looked them up and seems that anything cheaper is literally a wrecked car or a completely trashed POS, so I think I have it priced appropriately. Maybe? I could be wrong, but in this modern used car market, I don't wanna sell myself too short.

our fridge does this weird thing where it sounds like it is about to take off about twice a day. a super slow crescendo to the point of being pretty fucking annoyingly loud.

Here's some advice: don't get it anywhere near a treadmill.

Well then just hang out near carmax with their offer in hand. Try to poach their customers by offering to split the difference between what carmax charges for an equivalent car and their offer. Repeat until your car is gone or until carmax calls the cops.

Solid idea except for the fact they had a policeman posted there in the customer parking lot and one of the skycam police setups perched overhead. Perhaps they see a lot of theft there or something. Place was slammed, but I saw a lot of people leave the sales lot in as much sticker shock as me. Not that Carmax has ever been known for paying much or selling for good prices, but on occasion they've been fine. But sheesh. Car prices are bonkers! Really depressing. Might as well go new depending on what you're going for. Interested in that 2022 Civic hatch MT that Honda just announced.

Well, is it a GE? Maybe some parts got swapped with one of their jet turbine engines.

So, I had this VW Tiguan, ‘18, in super-excellent condition, mid-level trim, under 28k miles. I recently went to buy a new car, and told the dealer I wanted a price that was $4k less than I paid for it (based that on kbb) for a trade in. The dealer snapped it up and I was feeling pretty good about that because I also got a fair discount off msrp on the new car…until I looked on the dealer’s website and saw it listed for $2.5k more than I paid for it new.

    Crazy times I guess.

I've been half-ass shopping for a new car for "Elaine", and the fact that you managed to get a car below MSRP right now is something I'd put in the win column.
