    A) no where to put it or no money to dispose of it correctly

    B) dual diagnosis drug addiction and mental health issue.

It’s fucking crazy. At one point when dealing with increased camping in the community I was working in I said “hey, if we are going to let them camp and trash is an issue let’s put a dumpster relatively close.” All of the people who had worked on the issue were like no fucking way. “Here’s what will happen a) they won’t use it b) other people in the community will take the opportunity to dump their trash in it c) someone will get into it and empty it out on the ground next to the dumpster to look for anything valuable/useful.

Yep, and probably all correct. The whole situation is such a mess (by several definitions of the word).

Yeah, we have a pretty bad homeless problem here in SD. Every campsite is littered with trash. Not just stuff they've used and discarded, but all the random shit they gather or steal, bring back to camp and do something (??) with. I think B above is the most likely answer. It's not normal behavior. Sad thing is people wouldn't mind them camping so much if they didn't make such a fucking mess everywhere. The camps that were really shocking were the ones up in Portland along the freeways and industrial areas. At the least the ones in Socal try to camp out of sight.

It was becoming such an issue in my town that some folks got together and purchased a twenty acre plot of wooded land just outside of city limits for use as a camp. I don't know if that makes things better or worse.

We have campers who are homeless or clueless everywhere in Colorado

Yesterday I went to a camp site with a red hot fire in the middle of the day. Turns out he was burning his air mattress that had punctured. He said he didn't know there was a fire ban. Didn't know burning a giant piece of plastic was bad also.

The words common sense doesn't mean anything these days in America.

What I learned is that basically any idea you have about how to solve any issue relating to homelessness has been tried and probably failed.

Except for creating a vast social safety net including health care and mental health/addiction and giving people enough money to survive even if their life goes shitty all at once.

My annoyance today: no internet at my house this morning spend two hours on the phone with two different tech support people trouble shooting my modem (sure unplugging it the fourth time will DEFINITELY work this time), finally they set up a technician to come look at it two days later. 45 minutes after that I look outside and the cable company crew is outside fixing a neighborhood wide issue they’ve known about all day and are fixing. How the fuck did they not know this when they were sure it was my modem?

Both, and if there's a lock on the generator fuel fill I'm sure they have a spare can of gas that could be sugared.

Right. Everyone understands the root cause, but no one is willing to actually do anything about it. Everything else is window dressing.

You have to pay extra for that level of service. Seriously.

Curious: do you rent your modem from the cable company or is it your personal modem?

I was curious because "it's the modem" is ALWAYS their response when you don't rent from them.

I had my own equipment for about six years. As soon as the pandemic started, I was suddenly having all sorts of connection issues. Not just on zoom calls, but internet constantly going down. I suspect it was the large number of people suddenly working from home and the network not being able to keep up. But of course when I called - "it's your modem". It didn't matter that it worked perfectly and fast when the connection was there. Cox claimed that the modem was no longer supported. They'd be happy to come out and look at it, but I'd be on the hook for a service call if it wasn't deemed to be something that was their responsibility. We all know how that would go. So I caved and got new equipment from them, and $10/mo extra for concierge service so I could bitch them out if anything went wrong. Everything worked pretty well after that. I wouldn't put it past them though to have throttled my service before to compel me to upgrade. I cancelled the concierge thing but still paying $100/mo for basic internet service.

That sounds about right. I suck it up and rent from them so that if they say "it's the modem" I can respond with "ok, give me a new one". Which has happened a couple of times.

I had similar happen last year.

The tech they sent out was blaming my coax in the house while the boom truck was at the end of block. He'd literally driven past them to get to my house.

My cable service kind of sucks. But the service on my cable? Great! They remote into my modem and tell me real things. Provide great service. I’m a crab ass and a terrible critic and they honestly do a fantastic job the last 18 months or so. They never tell me to reboot (the robot lady who initially fields the call does, though) and are almost always pleasant and helpful.
    focus.

We must both have xfinity. The robot lady couldn’t reboot the system cause the internet to the whole damn neighborhood was down so it really messed with their troubleshooting software. “Ok let me try to reboot… anything happening this time?…. Ok try unplugging it yourself again.” Repeat until I’m dead.

i ordered a new standup desk
it took a while to get here and bunch of hoops to jump through as the delivery date faded into time I was away.
2 packages out of 4 arrived the day after I left even tho I requested they be held
my retiree neighbor moved them into the garage for me since he was picking up mail for us
    the other two arrived today
i inspected them and thought all was good to go (apparently not well enough)

i spent 2 hrs carefully assembling everything (upside down as directed) and flipped the desk to find a crack running halfway across the laminate top

now i've been in possession of the boxes for a bunch of days before calling out the defect & it's all assembled
company is further east so i'll hear tomorrow if they'll replace it
    ugh

You're not required to open your packages immediately, don't let them fuck with you.

cracks occur right in line with the grommet cutouts, dead center & perpendicular to the length
if it were a building, i'd call it a structural flaw
