I used evolving, Because I see changes that are not changing back - it is Not a progressive evolution, like one might perceive 'The evolution of Man' , but what I am seeing over forty years and sixty years are permanent changes to society -

internet purchasing ;
stuff like that -

ten years ago, I saw a need in the north country for home delivery ;
now it is provided by many retailers ( especially the large retailers ( hope-ing to survive the Amazon world (?) )

To Adolph's post, I am empathetic - I see value in in-person and at least voice-to-voice communication
( I may have lost a lot last year by not being Zoom/video conference compatible... ) - But
it is not the way younger people roll - electronic communication is the wave of the present ( at least what I see. text messages - between people in the same space; or the one that really kills me : a group of people at a table in a restaurant - each keying into a 'phone' ! !!
( I do claim my Old guy category. ) ) And
I believe the regularly-scheduled, in-person conference or group meeting is going to be ,,, different ( Less common ).

Here's a piece of anecdotal evidence that should make you feel at least a little better. At exactly two weeks after his second moderna, a friend was exposed to someone with covid for a significant amount of time over a few days, right in the most contagious stage. The covid guy ended up in the hospital, and my friend quarantined himself and got a number of tests. All negative, and he's fine.

Doesn't prove anything, but definitely supports the notion that the vax works. And the number of breakthroughs is still statistically minuscule.

Ok, just to be clear here, you are saying that your wife was fully vaccinated plus the two weeks, caught covid from you, tested positive, and was symptomatic?

The reason I'm looking for clarification is that if I had a penny for every person that told me they "had it" but never tested positive (or at all) I'd have more than change for a nickel.

Dying a slow and painful death here. It's all I can do to keep the animals fed so the don't kill me.

Had vertigo all day yesterday so driving in for testing was out of the question (it"s an hour round trip).

Still exhausted today so with the exception of having to feed the livestock I've been in bed.

Might be able to make it tomorrow but starting to wonder if I should bother.

Thoughts?

Get tested if you can get there safely.
But--you've been around a lot of people who could have given you any respiratory infection beside Covid, which could cause vertigo by affecting the Eustachian tubes that drain the middle ear and equalize pressure on either side of the ear drum.

An article in the WAPO that purports to show high case rates among the unvaccinated. Which it does, but if you look a wide selection of states what strikes me is that while case rates are significantly higher among the unvaccinated, the curves are uniformly parallel. In cases that had particularly high case rates in the last spike the fall in case rates is as steep as in the vaccinated. Some of this can be explained by the unvaccinated having less exposure to the virus because of the vaccinated and because of some of the unvaccinated have recovered and are mostly protected. In other words--partial herd immunity? Herd immunity doesn't have to be an all or none thing. It seems like a lot of complicated epidemiological math to figure out if that's enough to explain it.

Edit--I misread the graphs. The two lines are all residents and unvaccinated residents, not vaccinated vs unvaccinated. Since Unvaccinated outnumber vaccinated it is expected that the two curves would be somewhat parallel. Still, if the vaccinated were doing that much better than the unvaccinated the lines should diverge more than they do. What looks like is happening is that the lines diverge after vaccination starts, diverge more widely has the late winter/spring surge develops in each state, but then stay parallel as cases start to fall, which does suggest that the unvaccinated get a fair amount of protection because others are vaccinated. Not good enough, but not as bad as the article paints the picture--while the case numbers are high in the unvaccinated the numbers are falling steadily in almost every state.

The question is -- what will case numbers be like for the vaccinated and unvaccinated when the curves bottom out and stop falling.
