Wet heavy at Squaw today--the maze at granite was slightly downhill, packed to concrete, very bumpy--lots of carnage in the lift line, especially the boarders--people falling down or sliding into each other. But everyone was wearing a mask so it was ok.

Saturday morning, 10F. In ski area parking lot gaper says "oh left my boots in trunk overnight - they're cold."

Not as bad as the boots left in the snowbank in beside the upper Greyhawk parking lot - they'd be REAL cold.

My first experience with cold bots was in college. It was a beautiful sunny cold N Idaho morning and the truck cab was packed so i just tossed my boots in the bed of my buddies truck. 3 hours of driving through temps hovering between 0-5F I tried unsuccessfully to put my boots on in the parking lot. "Never again" I said to myself that day.

Leaving boots in a cold car is a gaper move practiced by many non-gapers.

When I was younger and dumber, I camped in the back of my (open) pickup truck bed in various ski area parking lots. Every morning, I had to find a bathroom with a hand dryer to warm up my boots enough to get them on. Got skunked at a-basin because their bathrooms only had paper towels.

You're supposed to put them in your sleeping bag at night to keep them warm I think.

Friday at Blackcomb, Glacier chair lineup. There's a line yes, but it's really not all that bad for Whistler (5-10 min max) and a foot of fresh snow. Time is around noon so everything is tracked out at this point but still a fun time out there. Anyway, ski school rolls up in 2 groups - first is Xtremely Canadian who lets some groups pass then asks to butt in, nothing out of the ordinary. After them is a lady instructor with 3 kids who does the same. She picks the wrong guy to ask though. Guy says something like "you've got your priorities straight today huh" which doesn't really make much sense so she asks this dude WTF he means. Says something like "using your jacket to get in front of everyone on a powder day" and she's like "sir, I'm working" and gestures to the 3 kids she's with. Dude keeps harping on and she interrupts him and says you know what you two (dude and his wife) go ahead. Go right ahead of us it's no problem really. Buddy refuses and still talks shit to the instructor, they're arguing back and forth and then when the guy's brain clicks in that he's being a giant douche I guess, he starts yelling about social distancing and for her to "get out of my face!"

I'm just thinkin' man, you're here in fucking paradise in the middle of a pandemic, it's just snowed a foot, all terrain is open, there's really not a lot of people here, and you're pissed about an extra 15 second wait to get up a lift? Feel sorry for this dude's wife - shoulda invited her back to our hot tub for a change of scenery and attitude now that I think about it.

Why are some people so high strung? I really can't wrap my head around it.

And there they were in the driveway when I got home. Right where I put them down.

    Skiing in rental boots sucks.

Or hasn't even heard about it, since it seems that he has his head up his ass and his foot in his mouth (quite the contortionist, actually).

Recently (so it must have been Alpine Meadows or Mammoth), we were in line, a ski patrol guy got to the front of the line, waited politely one or two turns, then asked the guy in front of us if he could jump in ahead of him. The guy said "No!" and moved to load the chair. Weird. We signaled the ski patrol dude that he could go ahead and take the next chair.

That works for the liners, but didn't really work for the shells.

Gotta pee in them to warm them up.

At Squaw waiting for Squaw 1 to start loading, employee tells a guy in line to stop eating and put his mask up. The guy responds with 10 straight minutes of very loud shit. Finally, the employee tells him--when you go through the gate and your name pops up on the liftie's tablet you're going to get a check by your name and your pass suspended. The guy responds--hey, I work here.

    Not any more.

Best Gaper qoute of the weekend?

^^^ meet another maggot on the way up to KW one epic style powder day and car pooled. We pull into the lot and I left my pack in my car. No coat, no gloves, no helmet, no googles. Luckily my friend has a place in the valley and I know where his hide a key is and he is about my size and his pass is in his ski coat. But fuck are his goggles pieces of shit.

Yeah. At first I thought I didn't hear correctly or misinterpreted what happened, but my wife heard the same thing. I sincerely hope that it's just that he was totally clueless and thought that some wise guy (liftie friend?) had jumped in front of everyone and was trying to cut into the line.

Jeep with nobody in it, engine running, two moms and 2 twelvish girls booting up right behind it.
Guy next to them asked them why the engine was running. Silence.
The Texas plates were the giveaway. Obviously they were doing their part for the state's economy by burning more gas. And poisoning themselves in the process.

I parked next to a guy that busted his painter's bench out behind his accord, set it up, and then proceeded to huff exhaust with his wife while they booted up and got their skis out of their ski bags. Like are you really going to go through all that trouble and then huff your own exhaust the entire time?
