Jeez. I don't recall anyone having advocated that upstate is that far north. I think Binghamton came into play on Eastern vs Central NY. The article refers to Liberty as upstate even.

I've done that with squirrels. I had a couple that kept eating through the garbage can lids. We went on a little trip to the park about 5 miles away and I released them under a redtail hawk's nest.

My FIL, God rest his soul, used to trap them, paint their tails and release them on the other side of the Genesee river from 19th Ward near the golf course in Genesee valley park. He was a scientist and didn't even know it. Can't say he ever saw one of those fuckers return.
