Took my Billy Goat 108 Tours out today for a bit. Skinned uphill to the ski area and then rode a few laps inbounds over a few inches of packed sugary snow (w/ some stashes of untracked in the trees) and corn up high. Damn these things are so intuitive, ski just like my other ON3P’s and are so damn light compared to my inbounds setup. I can just stand on these like my Cease&Desist’s, Caylor’s and Jeffrey’s and ride. They slash and float really well w/ none of the “plowing” I used to get w/ my 2015/16 184 Billy Goat’s. When the storm cycle hits Mt. Hood over the next few days I’ll get a chance to take them out for some real backcountry adventures.

Wrenegades are a little less picky about mount point than the RES shapes from On3p.

I had demo bindings on mine at first and thought I would like them forward. I actually didn’t like them forward ended up going back and forth between -1, -.5 and the line. I eventually just mounted on the line.

Also, fun note, just checked and the serial number on this pair is 006. That mean 6th pair made for this model I'm assuming?? How many per year do they usually make anywhoo?

Last thing, read through nearly this entire thread, consensus is mount at recommended or as close to as possible eh? Any dissenters to that? Mount point is the dimple on sidewall?

First day after a big dump, fantastic best powder skis I ever skied. Second time skiing groomers until they blasted the top and could get to the soft snow. Horrible couldn't ski them at all, figured Asym and RES. Quick trip in switch skis, had a great day.

Didn't ski them again until today, no big snows. Snowed some last night and all day today, figured I'd go out and learn to ski them in something other than a foot or more. First few runs same thing no matter how I tried to ski them. Skis were grabby, each had a mind of its own. Detuned outside edge, maybe that will do it, nope same thing. Ok detune inside edge and more on outside edge, nope same thing. No matter what I tried or how I skied 'em same thing grabby both skis want to go the way they want to go.

Figured this has got to be something other than me. Went in put them on the bench got out my trusty true bar. WTF do you know. Both skis, both edges, tip to tail anywhere from a bit to a lot edge high. No wonder I couldn't ski them, Mikaela couldn't ski them like this. In the deep where base flatness doesn't really matter all that much great, every where else not so good.

Needless to say the BGs are now off for a visit to the Montana CNC tuning machine for a base restructure. Now I know why a number of you keep saying in essence you're crazy the BG skis fine everywhere. Maybe the do, I'll find out after I get them back.
I had a similar experience on mine on the first day. figured I bought the wrong ski! “My daily’s are Wd108... should have gone Wd116...”

Then some email with ON3P... I learned I was WAY over driving the shovels of the BG. If ya drive the shovel enough to lift the tails... it all goes way squirrelly! After my education, I went out again focused on skiing from my ankles... then they started working. I’m still not dialled in on them, but getting there. I do find the balance a lot more different than expected compared to my Wd108.

It's not the style, I skied 'em every way you can. It's the edge high factory tune, which is easy enough to fix.

Everybody says stand on them don't drive them. Interestingly we have a patroller here that skis BGs as his patrol ski. I was chatting with him the other day and says you have to drive the tips and ski GS turns. I guess whatever works for ya. By the way he rips, everything, everywhere.

You are overblowing and perpetuating a narrative, There was a very small number of skis that left the factory with this issue.

Looking for insights into my next n+1 decision

BG108 tours vs regular BG tours? Specifically on either when do you start wishing you reached for a different pair of skis.

Will exclusively be touring on these skis so not too worried about performance on groomers or resort chop, but do ski all types of crust. FWIW planning to slot them in between a voile vector (spring ski) and Moment Comi (Deep pow and high avy danger meadow skipping). The sheer amount of fun I have on the Comi's made me thing the BG was a good option, similar turn radius and EE length, but feel free to suggest other skis or tell me why i'm wrong. Thanks

BG108 makes a great daily driver in the backcountry. This is especially true when it is supplemented with a narrower firm conditions ski and a wider deep day ski. The 108 waist width works well and is fun to ski in a very broad range of conditions.

Winter finally decided to arrive with full force up here, and at last I could take my BG 108T 50/50's out on their maiden tour in 35 cm/14 inches of fresh last night. Skis just like I thought and hoped they would: Like a quicker and lighter BG. So easy and intuitive. Super easy to flick around in tight spots. Great float. Poor visibility stopped me from going too fast, but they felt nice and stable at speed like a BG should. Tours great with the ATK's I put on them.

Overall super stoked. Can't wait to spend more time on them this weekend.

Just ordered a pair if billy goats for the first time. I know I need to ski very centered on hard snow but how much will I be able to get on the shovel on a pow day?

Depends on the snow, how fast you're going, how steep the pitch is, how much you weigh, etc.
    But generally, quite a lot.

Exactly. I also don't think they need a "very centered" delicate balance point on hard snow. They have reverse sidecut up front and a pin tail so obviously you can't drive them like crazy, but I can put some weight on the front of my 184 BGs on hard(er) snow at 175 lbs.

ON3P I love you, but I cannot read one more person ask "how much tip pressure can the BG handle?"

Thanks. I am guessing it will be close to my old atomic automatic which was also a pintail.

I think the new default response should just be “you’ll die”

Amusing how the take on BG days ranges from "I could DD this" to "I'll take a different ski if I have to hit groomers back to the lift".

If people can’t ski a goat both on and off piste they may have bigger issues. Lol daily drove them for 3 years. Now, daily driving supergoats. Hilarious.

I finally got on a pair of modern BGs, in chop and groom only at the tail end of a pow day but that's ok. There was definitely a feeling I'm not used to on firmer snow but nothing that made them unusable.

Is the J96 and J102 just slimmed down versions of the J108? Or are they more park oriented? Bummer 186 is the longest length.

I've been on Woods 108s as my daily driver unless it's REALLY a low tide groomer day, and I haven't clicked with a ski this strongly in a long time.
I've owned Wrens and I still own Billy Goats, and have demo'd Jefferys in the past. The Woodsman is a really FUN ski 'for me' and punch way above their weight in any conditions I'd take them out in.

Back to the BG love, which is well deserved.

Really interested in the BG shape, currently riding Moment Wildcats 190 for a pow ski. For those of you that have ridden both, how do they differ in feel? I like the Wildcats but looking for something looser overall.

In thanks, my Woodsman 108s. My daily ski and my absolute favorite ski ever. May even look at BG 108s because why not.

Spent my day today ripping the fresh soft snow all over Mt. Hood Ski Bowl on my Cease & Desist’s. As the snow got more cut up, the answer for a smooth ride was: go faster. It’s amazing how well these skis handle the chop, feels like variable untracked underfoot. Was a good day, a really good day. Tomorrow will be even better, tho I think it will be a Caylor day...
