Agreed that the BG/WD108 setup is a really complimentary pairing. Both are super intuitive and playful with a more neutral stance. Woods feel stable and agile everywhere, but don't charge as well on steep and/or deep, which is where the BGs come in. I actually feel like I carve my BGs on soft groomers better than the WD108s, just cause the woods are more slarvy.

To the groomer point, it is mostly a point being kept alive in this thread by everybody saying that it is not a problem, and thus - since "not" cannot be processed wrt memory, people remember that "wasn't there something about BGs and groomers and sucking?". If we could change the incredulity of people having to figure out how to ski them on groomers to just stating repeatedly "two foot arcs ftw" then the myth will probably die rather quickly as I think everybody is in agreement here - they do fine on anything other than bulletproof.

To the washing out point, the integral part of the description is to drive them hard through the shovels, which will make the tails wash out. Drive them from a centered, balls of your feet stance, no problemo. I just think we are doing a spectacular ski a disservice if we oversell what type of skier/skiing it works well for.

in other news, I decided to take my wren114 out for a full on day of touring. They are mounted with Shifts and I used my xt3 130s. It went pretty well. A little bit heavy on the up, while hilarity ensued on the way down. I did not make it all the way up to the top, or rather - decided against it. The snow was getting pretty wind affected, the sun was on the down and my legs were kinda tired after breaking the trail for myself, so decided to play it safe as I was on a solo mission.

What can I say - the Wren114s is a frekking fantastic ski imho - so stable and predictable, yet easy to whip around in denser woods/minigolf terrain. Mine are 179s for my 175cm self, so not super long - but big on fun.

I have seriously been considering if I should pick up a pair (or two) of ON3P touring skis this summer. Right now persuding Iggy that building me a wren108t + wren114t is something he should do seems like a good idea. Time will tell what ski/skis I end up favoring (if I decide to make the switch from Völkls). I plan on doing the same with BGs and the Woodsmans, big days out to get a feel for how they tour. Plan to do the same tour tomorrow with Katana VWs in 177 w/Tectons to compare. If my legs can take it that is

I'm just not sure how hard we really need to drive home the point that Billy Goats (116 waist, reverse sidecut, pintail, powder skis) are not front side carvers or race skis with a flat square tail - it seems so painfully obvious with one look at them. I also don't think they require some finicky balance point and find they are quite happy to be skied centered or with a pretty respectable amount of forward pressure.

So it's not that those characteristics don't exists, I just think they have been overblown. Maybe I underestimate how many people are wanting to drive their pintail powder skis like they are on a race course.

They are legit some of the most straight forward intuitive and FUN skis I've ever been on in anything soft and especially 3D and that is the story that needs repeating.

When you get them mounted up and try them out give us a comparison between the Goats and your GPOs.

Love that top-sheet featuring my mistress.

I have Woods 116, but I do need some Goats.

Finally got out on my 108 BG Tours. Love them, perfect one-ski touring quiver I think. Definitely punch above their weight in float. Definitely don’t feel heavy at all.

I might Try these in the resort soon, I suspect the tour layup still will be decent and not get bounced around much in variable

Straw man much? I understand that you are probably making exagerations to make a point, but you just end up so totally misrepresenting the nuances we are talking about that it completely misses the mark.

I don't really get how mags recommending their favored stance on a ski = finicky balance point, but if that is what you want to read into what has been written on the subect over the last 10 pages or so - then be my guest. That certain skis are skied best at certain stances is neither controversial or indicative of that being the only way a certain ski can be skied. The delta of people being on BG 184s is probably 30-40kg and 10-20cm, with legs/torso-ratios all over the spectrum. That there is not a once size fits all approach to how to ski a specific ski or BG 184s is pretty patently obvious. That some mags wanted the BG shape, but with a bit more supportive tails = SG orders. Jubilations and win-win.

I think I will stop beating these two dead horses (stance and how to drive BGs) just about now. We are just going in circles debating wording, not substantive differences in how we understand the ski or how to ski it.

Yeah, my BG + WD108 combo pretty much just live in my car at this point.

I’m actually doing some run by run comparisons between my Jeffrey 108, Woodsman 108, and Wren 108ti this weekend and next. Call it the battle of 108, if you will.

Will add some thoughts in the thread after 10-15 consecutive runs on each.

Anyone sitting on a used pair of Jeffery/Jessie/Kartel 170 or shorter? I am looking for something of that sort to teach the GF there is more to skiing than groomers.

worked the shit out of my woodsman96 in soft windbuff to knee deep today and loved it. it’s also my favorite bump ski these days. the 187 can swing pretty big for its size and ease of use

And yeah, my plan is to just pack both in the car for the foreseeable future. After skiing the BG, I'm really curious how the WD feels compared to the Wren. Think I could live with a looser tail and more playfulness out of my DD.
If they are clogging up your car I’ll take them off your hands. I’ll even pay for shipping.

I’m guessing you hit Stevens today? I bet it was unreal. Skied mine on Friday in the heavier stuff and they were still really amazing. Up high, where it was lighter, they were perfect.

Snickered agreement - that is one fine looking dog!

Not to be a dick to anybody's bank balance, but Iggy has posted a new batch of 184 BG108tours, 184 BGtours and 187 Woodsman108tours. Get them while you can. I narrowly dodged having to make some difficult decisions by there being no 182WoodT on offer

    Killer looking quiver PowTron.

I had such an amazing Jeffery108 day yesterday that I am once again debating switching my BG for the fattest Jeffery. Whatever that may be at my time of purchase.

This is an exercise I repeat every couple of years. So don't make it effect your purchases. I think it speaks more to how fun ON3P skis are.

N + 1. Don't replace the BGs just add the J116! I'd really like to give them a try too.

yeah, sage advice - they do seperate things well, so more than justifiable to have both in the quiver.

I kinda regret not picking up the two veneer Jeffrey 108 and 116 in 181 that Iggy had in stock at the end of last season, but my wallet does not. Kartel108 probably remain the most fun corn ski I have been on, and I have an distinct impression that I would have clicked better with a stock flex Jeffrey116 than the custom stiffer version I ordered (to try to make them more like woods116s before woods were released).

Whenever I in particularly fancy a pair I usually watch these to try to persuade myself that it is a good idea. Yeah, Karl is on Caylors in these, but still - it is the type of skiing I look at

I also must admit to miss Jonnie Merrill being on ON3Ps. He is such a strong skier and a joy to watch, though Line will probably treat him well too.

I usually prefer a solid mag to enjoy a pair before bloating my own quiver. I have hooked up many a mag with lightly used and never abused skis.

I usually have trouble justifying more than 3 pairs of skis.
