Unfortunately I got called out of retirement today due to covid (not me) - I’ll have to miss group rides until next Thursday
Weeeee!
Napping on the couch with a stomach bug tonight. Will try for next week

So I think I’m going to keep on using Zwift until outside riding. Let’s say I want to set a goal of at least being able to hang for a lap or so on this group ride. Some of the stats on the screen shots are way higher than my fat asthmatic ass currently produces, or even could produce. What sort of power do I need to build up to in order to hang on? Also are there regular routes that are used that I should get familiar with?
Ride the "Innsbrucking" route in the Innsbruck world. https://zwiftinsider.com/innsbruck/
It's fairly flat with one short climb toward the end of the route. This is the loop we do on any given Tues or Thurs and we do three laps of the course. Don't worry about being competitive or even keeping up. We adjust speed for the crowd and the goal isn't to drop anyone, but instead to try to get everyone as far as they can make it. If you only make it a half lap on your first time, so be it. Next time go for one lap, then for two, etc. Who cares if you get dropped?
Power recommendations are tough to provide because in Zwift what matters is your power to weight ratio. To give an example, if you weigh 170 lbs you'll do fine if you can sustain around 200 watts for the ~50 mins it takes to complete three laps. There will be spikes up to and over 300 watts, especially on the hill so that's the kind of future work you'll have to prepare for to make it all the way.
I'll add that 1st lap is in the 17min range; 2nd tends to drop closer to 16min, then they race from the hillclimb to the finish on the last lap. I usually get dropped on that last climb.
I'm 6'; 195 and think I usually run 180-190w for lap 1 (sitting in the draft as much as possible); lap 2 is probably closer to 200w
But as Huck says, we try to push each other, yet stick together for the first two laps. I'm always hurting on each climb, but they slow up and I push the downhill to catch back on.
One the best things about zwift (for me) is how the “race” for 18th or 42nd place or whatever feels like you are trying to win the olympics. It’s a great environment to push your limits whatever they are - even more fun when it’s with your own group of people.
Hey Dee, I just followed you on Zwift, I have the same handle there as here. I have had a few off weeks, but will try to join the ride at least occasionally and hang in as long as I can. Interested to see that Zwift gives me higher watts but lower calories burned than what my bike computer estimated from my heart rate.
Yep. Added you to the list. We are up to 27 invites now.
Back to back top 5 in A race... beast mode!
that guy is a machine
how are these guys "pro" zwifters and cant figure out how the game works? He just needed to change his camera angle in the start pen, to see his own bike. simple.
"uh, why is everyone on mountain bikes?"
"duh, I don't know what bike I'm on, I'm not sure what guy is me, we all look the same"
Heh, yeah that guy is fast but also kind of a dipshit. I can't handle watching his videos. "bro i totally would have won bro but..."
Level 45 with 10M drops wants us to believe he's still figuring out this whole bike choice thing?![]()
Maybe he wanted to see if he could beat the mtb’rs using gravel bike but still have excuse if he couldn’t.
I like watching Pritch, he’s a funny guy

Finished up my TDZ stages.
Mostly raced the C groups, or paced myself in the B group if I needed that route badge.
I tweaked my back last week, to the point of going to see a chiropractor for the first time ever.
I have taken a bunch of days off from skiing and Zwifting.
But the last few days I did 2 light TDZ stages at an easy pace to ease my sore back into riding.
If anyone is looking to join the Twice Weekly TGR meetup for the first time, I’ll gladly hang at the back after a lap or two to help keep any new guys/girls in the group.
