My daughter in law is an osteopathic student. She's been working in a family practice clinic where a bunch of people, including the doc that was mentoring her, tested positive, but her school wouldn't get her vaccinated. Finally my son managed to get her a shot at the university hospital where he works.

Shaming people for getting the vaccine now? New low for the TGRz.
If you can legally get a vaccine then get it. One less person to contract the virus and potentially spread it. One less person in the ER. One less person with long term debilitating health issues. One more person who can leave the house and go be a productive member of society without living in fear.

There's a bunch of cognitive dissonance in the whole vaccine thing, for me and for others it seems. While I not so patiently wait, when someone gets it that doesn't seem due yet, part of me wants to object. But of course, if I was offered it right now, or told there was a place to wait in line to get vaxxed, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

So yeah, so long as someone is legally getting it (vs lying or doing something underhanded to get it), don't bitch at them. Bitching at the people in charge of the rollout is a more appropriate place to direct your ire.

I'm not trying to shame anyone, just curious how a "healthy" high school senior would receive the vaccine so early in the process.

Because he's a fucking 1st responder due to his SAR job, and first responders are at the top of the list in most places.

Why is this so hard to grok?

Iowa sent a bunch of extra vaccine to CVS and Walgreens and opened up appointments yesterday on Walgreens today in CVS for 65

    This happened out of nowhere.

My parents report the Walgreens signup website was an absolute junkshow. Server apparently even worse than TGR. A friend texted me at 6 am to say they had it back up and appts available so I called my parents to wake them up and they report it was like 2 hours trying to get tickets to a sold out show fighting the scalpers. They sounded pissed off about the whole deal and me waking them up...and then...

My 77 yo mom scored her first and second appt on CVS at 7:56...4 minutes before the official opening

Have to be on the ball. I am glad my parents are somewhat internet savvy and I have been watching the opportunities for them so they both have appts. I feel bad for people who aren't and don't have kids watching out for them.

Wife's parents live in Illinois and are already shot up. Easy peasy for them.

A volunteer on-call weekend SAR is considered first responder/first priority ? I'm assuming the op in question is such since he has stated he's still in high school. Does every explorer scout that does ride alongs in a police car get one too ? I'm not questioning that first responders should be first in line, that seems like quite a few non professional "first responders" would be in line over professionals in the field daily that haven't had the chance to be vaccinated.

Why don't you do a whole investigative report and burrow up his asshole to decide if he's worthy? Oh, wait, you've already done that.

This is the cognitive dissonance @Danno referred to just a few posts back. If you're categorized to get a shot, GET THE FUCKING SHOT. Don't get wrapped up in a bunch of "but... but... but... my 80yo gramma" bullshit. The reason your gramma isn't getting the shot is NOT due to SUF the HS'er getting *his* shot.

    Just don't.

ETA: To be clear, the 80yo gramma is fictional in this case

Just don't let that distract you from the end-game "prize" - which is herd immunity. Being jelly because someone *else* got something you didn't, though, is quintessential 'Murika.

To Vaccinate or Not---The Rat Flu Odyssey Continues

My 30-yr old friend got a shot bc she’s red-carded and the district asked if all the red-carded vollies wanted shots. She said yes. Even Fauci is saying “if you’re offered the shot get the shot”.

Get mad at the old federal admin for not even trying to make a game plan for vaccine distribution

Get mad at your state admin for fucking up state distribution plans.

Put the blame where it’s due, not on people that are just doing what they’re told by medical advisors. Quit playing martyr and acting like you’d turn it down if you got the chance to get it.

Not mad at ANYONE, I would take the shot any way possible if offered. More curiosity than anything.

Turns out, she’s in HR for a hospital.

I still think that’s bullshit though. No where near a frontline worker.

I hear ya. I’d love to get the shot ASAP too. At this pace all my friends will be vaccinated within the next few weeks and I’m still probably 9 months out.

I'm in the same boat. Ms Boissal is vaccinated along with every one of our friends (the few who aren't in healthcare got creative). I'll be sitting in the corner for the next 6 months while they use 6' sticks to make sure I don't approach.

We've perfectly rank-ordered everyone by virtue and decency to establish vaccine priority. You haven't gotten your number because you're last.

Where is Jong Slaughter when we need him? These bullshit complaints about who's in line first are irksome.

Your joke is funny. I’ve got over 800 clients on Medicare who need that shot before a 30 yr old office worker.

I must be second last to you.

Maybe move to North Dakota or West Virginia.

    9-months seems like a stretch...november 2021? I think by mid summer.

I would say by the winter we'll be trying to convince the antivaxxers to stop being assholes an get the fucking shot already.

How do you know her age? Also, she looks much older, maybe 40-50 yr/old.

Also, if she works in a hospital as you say, isn't that by definition a frontline worker? I would think that being in HR she has to interact with other staff who are dealing with COVID patients.

Absolutely....however, for me the frustrating part is seeing people that are truly undeserving get it because, like the example I posted up thread about my 25 yr old coworker, they know a friend who's a pharmacist that sets one aside instead of seeking out someone that could really use it, like an older person, or someone who is at risk. That said, and others have pointed it out, get the shot when you can, and these one off stories don't really move the needle, probably.

What would you think about janitors at the hospital/clinic? I think it's smart to have a buffer of vaccinated people in a healthcare setting.

Of course I think a lot of this is a failure of leadership and organization on a federal level then trickling down to states and local health departments. If we had clear groups defined and a plan for when states would get shipments + shipment size it would have let state and local governments solve problems instead of having to each do the planning in parallel.

For example goldmember's comment on North idaho residents going into Spokane for a vaccine. It sorta makes sense, that part of Idaho is in Spokane's influence area. If we'd coordinated about that I'd have no problem with it. But instead that's a case of an idahoan essentially stealing a vaccine from a Washington resident.

Lots of arguing over who should be prioritized and all have their beliefs, reasons, and stories to support their positions. So, let's stop all vaccinations until some time this coming fall, we can have a national election that prioritizes groups based on jobs, genders, race, age, comorbidities, socio-economic status, etc. Then we can properly organize an intricate plan to distribute the vaccines in a matrix form that accounts for one or more elements under this coverage and weight averages to determine, by name, who exactly is number one and who exactly is number 330,000,000. Yeah, that's the approach. We should have everyone vaccinated by 2035.

Or, we could accept things as they are and hope to hell there are ways to speed up the processes through simplification and quit fucking bitching about someone getting in front of someone else because we don't like the way the process is being administered because we didn't get our toast buttered on the side we prefer. What a bunch of fucking selfishness. The bigger picture is speed of overall vaccinations as we're in a 'race against the mutants' (I love that phrase, should be a movie title).
