Sure, the fog was inconsistent and the tiny stashes well hidden, but efficient skating is important on the gentle uphill approaches. So, we had that going for us. Also, the lighting.

Toured out of Copper Basin over by Lookout today, had a pretty scary pit test experience. My slices isolating the column popped out on the PWL we’ve all been talking about around 110cm down-we know this going in and expected the 30 degree slope to be stable enough on that weak layer for our purposes.

But the real surprise was a ridiculously clean Q1 fracture on 5th wrist tap that sprung the whole column out 90cm down. Looked like buried surface hoar and wasn’t readily apparent upon our layer test, all the snow above the PWL seemed well consolidated and consistent.

Tiptoed around that slope for sure.

Keep it safe out there, friends

Hi friends! Anyone know how Silver and 49 are holding up during this weird weather? Heading in that direction thurs-sun and wondering what I should be expecting.

Unexpectedly poor skating conditions at the foggy basin this morning. Firmer, wetter and still needing soft knees below about 5k or so, but seemingly colder than expected. May have been opening day for alder season if things don't get too warm down low tomorrow.

Silver was great for an hour yesterday and decent for another 30 min then it got tacky. NFG gate 1 was closed along with Sunset down to Eureka and Wardner was closed too.

    2013/14 Inland PNW thread

Pure chaos in my hood this morning at 6:45.
I heard a loud pop from inside my house followed by a loud crash. Ran out my front door to see my neighbors house with a tree in it. Ran over banging on his door and got them out safely. After that there was trees falling left and right and I was just running from house to house helping people get out while also watching the sky for more falling trees.
Could not leave my neighborhood due to trees down everywhere so I called in my work crew to come help cut a path. While we were doing so several other trees came down in the process.

Wow, wicked. Looks like the south side of Spokane four or five years ago. Total warzone. Stay safe!

Hopefully no one got hurt in this one. That's gnarly.
