At the risk of giving Scott a good laugh, the 186 RES model “feels” looser and softer in the tail than the 184 Asym variant. I own both. I have the same impression of the 191 RES vs 189 Asym variant. They ski and feel different enough to me to notice. Much more than cutting 2-cm off the tail.
Also, the tour flex on the 189 Asym C&D feels closer to the 186 RES BG than my 189 Asym BG.
Maybe it’s all in my head, but I know I’m not the only one who feels this way.

I got mine last season -- I think it was January 2020. I had the hooky tips problem for a couple of days. I solved it by bringing a gummy with me for a few days and gradually detuning the tips. I don't remember if I did anything to the tails, but if I did it was similar. I've probably got 15 days on them now and have zero issues (fuckin' love them).
So for me, it was no big deal. Just make sure you have a gummy in your pocket.
Remind me how you got your current 191’s again? [emoji6]
Also, I couldn’t believe nobody else snatched Woody’s 191’s. They were available FOREVER. I feel like I did a public service by buying them and allowing Mr Dynastar to buy more Dynastars...or maybe he used the funds to reclaim his coveted 202 L138’s. That narrative gives me a warm fuzzy! [emoji23]

To pull that off I’d need Scott to do the “light blue almost denim” top sheets again (that color isn’t a choice anymore), go green sidewalls and the “Eh Ski” bases to make them resemble my Cease&Desist’s. That gets really spendy... working on convincing her that I dislike my current touring setup enough AND that I plan to tour a lot more, SO I should be on skis I “know” and are predictable in ways my current touring skis are decidedly NOT.
I actually used to mount my Kartels at -2, then usually at -1. These ended up at -.5cm as I had slight mounting mishap, but they will be playful and serve the purpose I need. If I was going to use them as my main daily driver, I would have went somewhere between -1 and -2. I am a Wren and BG guy usually.
You should have been here yesterday!

Hey Scott,
You built it and I'm trying to make good ;-) When will we see a re-stock of 179 BG Tour 116's?
I just got off the phone with you guys and between lousy reception (I was on a land line) and some obtuse answers, I'm still in the dark. Can we expect to see some non-TGR approved "shorties" when the 2021/22 production run fires up? I don't even see a 179 BG in the custom section (website error?).
If I recall, you're on an earlier release schedule than most of the industry (starting up the new model year in the Spring) ... amirite? April? July? (for shorter BG Tours).
You can trash my e-mail inquiry from yesterday if you answer over here.
[edit] I get that the COVID thing has upset everything, including production capacity, figuring out how many skis yer gonna sell (and what builds to prioritize). Damn! I may not even get out this Winter 'coz of COVID which is why I didn't jump on this when the 179s were in stock. Be well!
Thanks!
... Thom

Got out on the 187 Woodsman for the first time today.
Here are some initial impressions...
Conditions - sloppy seconds from latest multi-day storm cycle totaling 80”. Temp spike yesterday created some heavy PNW mank, with pockets of high-density coastal pow, and soft groomers.
What I Like: off-piste in the dense pow, mank, crud, skied out stuff they are perfect. They ski with the dampness of a metal layup ski. Push through the heavy junk well but are also fairly loose and smeary. They reminded me of a skinnier Billy Goat. Not quite as loose in the tail, but still really easy to toss around due to the narrower build. Still retain that ON3P energy out of the tail.
I also really liked them charging through the small bumps and ripples as the groomers got more skied out. They absorb quite a bit and offer a lot of suspension and a fairly damp ride.
What I didn’t like: They felt really hooky on groomers. I had to get really aggressive with the gummy detune. That helped a bit, but something about the sidecut feels...off. As the day wore on, I felt more comfortable on the groomers at speed. They are far from my Brahma’s, but still more than passable for a ski this wide. As long as I was on the front of the skis they behaved on the groomers. Let off and ski more neutral, and it felt like I was fighting the turn radius and that “hookiness/grabiness” showed up immediately.
I really like this ski off-piste, but the strange groomer performance was really off-putting. I guess I need to spend some more time to figure these out.

The woodsman sidecut is not messed up. It’s the tune, fix that and they will feel like they do off piste on groomers
Was something up with the woodsman edges? Why are so many mags who know how to ski discovering tune issues?
wait!!!! waitwaitwaitwaitwaitwaitwaitwait...Wait!
Zoolander wasn't a documentary?
I hope you are right. I WANT you to be right. I kept saying...”why am I having to fight this ski so much on the groomers when it is AMAZING off trail?”
I hate that I have to go screw with getting a new tune when someone obviously spent a decent amount of time putting a finish on the skis. I’ve never skied anything that felt this awkward on groomers...and I’ve tried a few skis. [emoji6]
