Forty years of skiing, and that never happened to me, and never heard of it. I hope they were on strike. I'd commend them for doing it if it was a work action. Because that fucking company sucks. I drive 2.3 hours to stand around and hear that second hand after I just went back to my car. Not one fucking notification from the mountain through email. There were still people rolling into the parking lot, and one guy said, yeah, no notification. Fuck, they have our emails. It's basically our IDs. It would have been easy to robo email us if anybody knew what the fuck they're doing, but we have seen the pathetic level of customer service that company delivers all summer, so, no surprise. Tell us what the fuck is going on. No, I have to skulk around the internet to find the real story.

I hate this company. I wish that Covid spreads through the board room. The best thing that could happen to skiing is for them to fall into financial ruin and divest anything good, before it's to late. Fuck them.
By way of GPS and data usage, Vail notified the Patrol you were heading their way, Patrol said “oh fuck no” and went on strike. Apparently to appease the patrollers the agreement was to not notify the poor Eeyore, and give Patrol a day of rest due to the perceived trauma they may have had to endure when you slipped off loading.

Think of it this way Eeyore they saved you from injury.

You gotta wonder if Epic is contacting all the skiers who reserved Wed. - Fri. about this, or just letting them drive to nothing.

    Bunny wasn't at Hunter today.

By the way, they are closed tomorrow, so sleep in.

No more deals. Indy pass if you have it. No day ticket window sales. Prepurchase online. No tram. But no reservations needed for passholders.

benny, hear ya. i have a ticket for tomorrow, i found out via a text from a non-skier friend at 11pm last nite.
    vail absolutely sucks.
    selling back this am.

    edit: submitted online form.

last time i cancelled at hunter the only option to cancel a modern, easy, on-line purchase was to call a horribly poor sounding phone menu (at vail central) and wait...and wait...and wait...only to be disconnected after 25mins. no one answering phones at hunter. no one replying to my several emails (the other posted option at that time. i finally had to report them to my cc provider to get my money back.

buy in 2020/21...time machine to 1977 technology to get a refund.
glad they fixed that at least.

yea total fail by hunter/vail to not use all of the personal info they have to inform ticket holders and show that all that they want to keep their customers.

vail = ski area slumlord. they bring none of their supposed high-end cachet to their mountain victims.

Thinking maybe Saddleback on Friday as the day ticket is pretty reasonably priced. Stoked to see all the work they did this past Summer.
Best deal in USA: $15 9am to 9pm with a $10 llbean gift card back to you this Friday at Black Mountain of Maine (not sure if card is there every Friday, but it is $15). Small mountain groomers until we get snow, but our glades stack up with anyones on the EC when the snow is in. Despite Covid we had our largest expansion by far this Fall.

I can’t wait to get back over to BMOM. An entire weekend of tickets costs less than a day at most resorts. Add to that the amazing nordic trails and night skiing and it would be a great time. Honestly a Mag Summit there would be cool.

We have stayed in Bethel and wonder if there is anywhere better for future trips?

We don’t have him, he has himself in his own personal circle jerk.

A best western is being built in Rumford so there will some lodging in the future. Mill is still going, but the labor force has been dramatically reduced leaving poor housing stock and a hollowed out downtown. Black definitely would be a fun place for a summit

    nice work
    from https://phys.org/news/2021-01-immine...ric-weeks.html

Weather forecasting models are predicting with increasing confidence that a sudden stratospheric warming (SSW) event will take place today, 5 January 2021.

The stratosphere is the layer of the atmosphere from around 10-50km above the earth's surface. SSW events are some of the most extreme of atmospheric phenomena and can see polar stratospheric temperature increase by up to 50°C over the course of a few days. Such events can bring very cold weather, which often result in snowstorms.

The infamous 2018 'Beast from the East' is a stark reminder of what an SSW can bring. The disturbance in the stratosphere can be transmitted downward and if this continues to the Earth's surface, there can be a shift in the jet stream, leading to unusually cold weather across Europe and Northern Asia. It can take a number of weeks for the signal to reach the surface, or the process may only take a few days

way to bring the stoke MOD.

    benny,
not to worry. it appears ticket refunds should only take EIGHT WEEKS.
i complained above about the 70s tech required to cancel previously.
eight weeks is like 1800s stage coach tech
(4weeks our with the paperwork...4 weeks back with my refund)
    fkg joke!)

And Vail does suck. They charged me twice for one season pass, sent me two cards with my name and photo, and then cancelled one of them. After trying for two months to get my $500 back, I gave up and filed a dispute with the credit card company. Dicks.

I have the Epic northeast midweek pass, so, no refund issue, but I would not be surprised at all if I recieve some sort of robo warning for not using my reservation slot for that day.

Yep. Imma go with Bennie and Bucket on this one. That's pretty eff'd. Since their largest customer base out here has to be NYC; hopefully some big-wig muckity-muck (or 10) or his/her snowflake had to turn around upon arrival and they (and, more importantly, their money) can raise cain.

    But...prolly not.
It makes perfect sense...until you think about it.

I suspect there's logic behind the madness, but I'm too dumb to see it.
