Patients had a wide spectrum of disease severity. If one assumes that the number of asymptomatic or minimally symptomatic cases is several times as high as the number of reported cases, the case fatality rate may be considerably less than 1%. This suggests that the overall clinical consequences of Covid-19 may ultimately be more akin to those of a severe seasonal influenza (which has a case fatality rate of approximately 0.1%) or a pandemic influenza (similar to those in 1957 and 1968) rather than a disease similar to SARS or MERS, which have had case fatality rates of 9 to 10% and 36%, respectively.

Most cannibals don't know it. It just comes upon them, in a dream-like state. They usually have no recollection of it. A good home camera system is vital is seeing what really happened when you can't remember.

Just got my first dose of the Moderna vaccine. 911 EMT in Boulder, they moved us up the queue from our original 1b slot. So far 10 minutes in and I haven’t died, but my 5g reception is noticeably better.

In all seriousness, please, be responsible, wear a mask, this is not over by a long shot. Yes, I finally feel we are on the cusp of a tipping point but “the end” or a return to “normal” is many months away. Stay vigilant. Be nice to healthcare workers. Be nice to everyone actually.

In my ICU, all the other RN's, all the RT's, all the docs I've spoken with are getting it, if they've not already had it. Dates all staggered out so as not to have a bunch of people potentially out at the same time. I think we have two pregnant ladies who are on the fence, but leaning towards getting it. We're a level II center with 370 beds. Normally only 20 ICU beds, but converted our SDU for an additional 10. In spring, we had cancelled surgeries and were using out ASU, PACU, and inpatient dialysis center as ICUs as well. Think we had near 70 vented C19 patients at our high point. Currently seeing a bump. Assuming it will get worse again post-holidays. Selfish fuckers.

My 2nd Pfizer shot is scheduled for Jan 7th.

No qualms about the shot. Wanted it as soon as available.

They should charge that individual with reckless endangerment.

Tampering with vaccine efforts should be a federal crime with many years in prison. There’s no place for this shit.

Fedgov paid over $10K for those destroyed vaccine doses.

    1666. DESTRUCTION OF GOVERNMENT PROPERTY -- 18 U.S.C. § 1361

"if the damage exceeds $100, the defendant is subject to a fine of up to $250,000, ten years imprisonment, or both."

Oh snap. However, were they government property at the time? I sure hope they were.

Late to this thread—perhaps most disappointed (but not surprised) that TNken’s daughter is advocating for not getting the vaccine. Bummed she will be a healthcare professional.

Had my moderna vaccine tues. Moderate arm pain and some chills/myalgias for the 24-36 hours after. Unfortunately I also started coughing, so scheduled for a covid test tomorrow. The ultimate fuck you to end 2020 would be to get covid and then become symptomatic the day I get the vaccine, but such is life. Hopefully shit clears before I’m back in the hospital in another week or so.

Curious to know...if someone is over 75 and is generally healthy but has a condition that puts them at serious risk if they got Covid, what’s the actual process they’d use to ensure they got vaccinated relatively soon? Are they supposed to ask their GP to be their advocate?

I know things vary by state and county, just trying to understand how ‘the list’ operates in practice.

Completely variable. In CO the Governor basically told people to call healthcare systems (cue busy signal). In some areas seniors are being signed up by senior organizations as well as having access to signup portals, and in some areas are being contacted by healthcare systems directly. It is hard because a lot of it is via email and that isn't always the best medium.

Yeah, UC Health emailed my mother in law yesterday. who’s at risk and also lives in assisted living and said she could make an appointment for the vaccine. Boom, got it today. Couldn’t have been smoother. Hopefully this happens more and more as shit rolls out.

In Oregon it looks like only phase 1a (front line health care workers and nursing home residents ) has been defined. In other words, while the news in Oregon talks about the vaccine getting rolled out more broadly to seniors over 75, the Oregon Health Authority hasn’t yet got their shit together on that quite yet.
