Weird day lapping Eldora, sunny and windy down low in town. Frozen ice mist on and off through the day in the clouds, near no wind. Odd after the wind fuck it took this weekend.

Yellow jackets out in force to slow down the groms, saw one get nicked.

And the CA and FL tags blocking Shelf road for a picture, yer god dam right Im going to lay on the horn the whole fucking time you block the road.

To be fair to our mutual friend, weren't the pics he shared from before this extended wind event? I hope so.
I just checked his buddy's Facebook page and it was on 12/17 (last Thursday).

There was certainly about a foot covering whatever garbage was underneath on that SE slope and a bit of side loading. Maybe I'm being overcautious (I can be alarmist - testosterone shortage), and maybe a bit of my ignorance is showing.

I'm just a bit sketched (admittedly from my armchair) about anything up high at the moment. I'll send you a couple more photos privately, as I'm curious about your opinion - admittedly without the benefit of boots being on the ground.

Well the storm is here. Thundersnow to start things off, was a little sketchy as I just came down emerald from walking the dog. I've never seen anything like it in December, it was pretty intense. Currently under a snow squall warning. Second alert just came through on my phone. I heard on the radio earlier to not get caught on Rabbit Ears Pass. I have a feeling there are a ton of ppl up there right now, on the trails and passing through 40.

Hopefully. We need some sticky snow to plaster the thin snowpack and help build the base.

Yeah that was pretty burly. I lasted 6-7 runs and ran back to the truck to hide.

I think they opened the Rat up to the public for at least warming-up last weekend.

Saw it was -33F wind chill this AM there -- and that was at the weather station.

I think I got frostbite on my face at Abasin today. That 3” was really densely compacted. Lots of people struggling with it.

Their website shows International opened? It still looked pretty boney on Sunday.

Went meadow skipping today. Whumpf, whumpf, whumpf. Most whumpfs I ever heard.

Snow pack is so thin in the Indian Peaks that I had to skin up my intended line and make note of where the deepest wind drifts are. By taking a convoluted line that connected those drifts I found just enough snow to make some turns. This was in what is probably the snowiest little pocket I know. Coverage looks like early October.

Not in the morning, maybe in the afternoon. But I can’t see how with more rocks than snow.
