Looks like Peruvian was testing the magic of his alpine game in the shots I’m seeing.

I got a call inviting me to stay the night in a friends spare (and safely separate) bedroom. They were former tech rescue team partners. When they got a tone at 9pm for a SAR for a snowed in camper, I new I was back in my former hometown and our plan for a Saturday tour would change.

We arrived at the Mad Tom Notch winter parking area at 8am. After skiing up to the empty LT/AT parking lot, we figured we had better check the upper campsite. FWIW - it was a beautiful day and it was great to catch up with old friends. Turns out we were chasing a rumor more than completing a “wellness check”. There was no one there. At least the views were great.

Keep ‘em coming. I am more jealous of that base than I am of the turns! Looking like we’ll be back to bare ground up here in northern VT come 12/25. Didn’t make the nice list this year I guess.

Gonna be up in the berkshires with the fam over New Years and I’ve been dying to do the thunderbolt trail on mt greylock for a while now.

Anyone know what conditions are like that far south? Is that gonna have coverage this early after the recent storm?

Also very crowded but some friends skied it yesterday and said the added tracks improved the skiing. Less wallowing in the flats.

Those Magic pics are awesome. It restores my faith in nature when Magic wins big.

Plattekill was not as deep, maybe 2 feet of snow. Still it was a great opening day. Just like a normal day at Platty, no problems keeping distance. I rode the lifts alone, it really changes the dynamic of the day.

    Was -10 when I arrived.

    I've got a Plattekill Pass and a Ski3.

I was with Laszlo at the end of the day. He was peppered all day ny single day ticket skiers begging him to sell them a seasons pass. This one guy comes up, apparently they'd talked earlier. He presses his card into Laz's hand and said "remember I don't care how much it costs."

Yes, but I think they are all sold. Not sure about that.

The turns I've been making the past three days have been really nice, but hitting lotso rocks. So keep the speeds moderate, and also keep repeating the mantra that all backcountry skis are rock skis.
(Nordic skiing though has been perfect!)
As for New Year's, anything could happen by then, whether good or bad. Even in an outstanding season down here, two weeks can take us from 70mph to a dead stop.

I was there yesterday (12.19) - absolutely amazing day

They have gotten less snow that SVT, but still enough to make the trail skiable

Problem is there is nothing underneath, so I was tagging stuff every third turn

Needless to say, there was a fair bit of traffic (not nearly as bad as some of the resorts though ), so the steeper parts got really scraped off by the end of the day

The short steep part at the top was not really skiable (I skied the road to circumvent) and the stairs immediately below the road were not covered

I did 2 laps - pics below are from the morning:

Fun few days—some excellent skate skiing at Great Brook and left in time to beat the crowds. Tooled around in the Arboretum today, absolutely gorgeous. Felt so incredibly good to get out the last few days. Really looking forward to this year being done.

I have some Cannon day ticket discounts that expire 12/31 if anyone is interested. Trade for beer, Jay vouchers, a telemark lesson or good karma.
