Got to Gunstock at 5:15 (don't tell me why so early) to skin two laps. So deep it was really hard to get the necessary speed on the board. Looked slightly easier on skis. But alas hard to make 24" on no base feel like normal turns. Pretty morning tho and gorgeous views of Washington!

Magic was pretty spectacular today. Slight hiccup with Green and so it was Red lift from a slightly delayed start. Solid 2’+ deep of very dry/cold/skiable pow. Witch to BL, Gonif, Twilight Zone, Presto glade first tracks etc. Fortunate enough to join Jamaica Man, Do Work and others for a some pre-opening West side runs (opened around noon) including Do Works first of the year on Magician, and then the first ever for many of the crew on a virgin and steep Pitch Black. Tons left especially the woods for tomorrow and with cold temps and no wind a repeat of sweet pow. Lines minimal - 5 to 8? Mask adherence 99% and the coral sheriff made the 1% comply.....
Sorry about the pics but I am not Rusty Groomer on the camera.

^^^ Nice! Live and learn...
Got learn the stomp....needs to be pretty much right before impact...explode legs to earth, preferred tails first.
Keep and eye on that one, you might get a trip to the hospital for stitches and a dentist visit for missing teeth. Knee to face...like mentioned though live and learn.
These days I prefer terra firma. The more firma the less terror.

Sickter.
Killer day at mighty state run Belleayre today. Only had 6 trails listed as open, but there were more skiers on the closed trails than the open ones. 24" of light powder. Ski patrol on the far side of the mountain prepping the rest to open tomorrow. Had about 4 easy to poach all natural ways down from the top plus the open groomers and naturals.
Great, great day. Youngest daughter and wife's star of teh season on soft snow, and low crowds....killer. Oldest daughter joins us tomorrow PM. Looking forward to more fun on soft snow while we have it...
Dog also loving our efforts to sled through 24" on an old time flexi flyer....
Have a great weekend everyone.
driving in the back seat never has a good ending in deep snow,a bad take off rarely ends pretty

Didn't get out to Magic until 1:00 due to work commitments but what an incredible day. The snow was so much more skiable than the day-of. West side had just "officially" opened and the runs were sublime. Best run down Upper Magician ever for me. The only rope I saw was Pitch Black but plenty of peeps ducked. I hiked it about 6 weeks ago and the amount of jagged, blasted ledge from the lift install convinced me to pass until there's something more solid underfoot. Everything else was awesome including a not-groomed run down everybody's favorite, Trick. That trail skis so much differently with huge water bars and soft bumps everywhere.
No pics on a powder day for me and nobody can take better than Rusty.
ETA: No lines at all in the afternoon. Phuck Vail (even though I have an Epic Pass).
Who’s the skier? Nice Tips!
