For me it's been easy to follow a plan to the letter since this winter has sucked in MT. But if it starts dumping I'd ski and just do my best to adjust the plan.
As for zwift racing specifically - I'm no expert but from what I've heard you can do a training plan, or you can do a lot of races, but the two are really hard to mix and expect to do well at both.

We ride together at +/-2.5w/kg for 40 minutes, then there is a climb with 4kms left where we show who’s who and “race” to the finish line.
I want everyone to feel comfortable joining these rides.
Every guy who said “I’ll try to join but I’ll probably get dropped off the back” has been right in the pack for 40+ minutes until the last climb/run to the line.
Just got an "Inride" sensor for my old Kinetic Road Machine. First zwift ride today and I think I'm hooked. No where near ready to pull 2.5 watts per kg for 40 minutes shape wise but hoping to join you guys at some point.
The Sheriff is near!
Alright boys. My connection dropped out maybe 20 times but only like 5 seconds per time. Wahoo Core connected to a Bluetooth dongle. Old laptop. Any ideas? Happened Thursday too just not as bad. Maybe the laptop is too old?

yeah thanks DH - i wasn't going to ride tonight, but figured "what the hell" - thought you would catch me at the end!
Thanks again Dee... Hopefully I can pull my weight next go around.
DH said lets catch Wen... I didn't have the reserves to even send a response!
Awesome fun again. I really like the no drop mentality. Good old fashioned fun (with nerdy techy new school bike accessories)

Nice! I think you win the best trainer scenery competition.
Here's my dungeon. Since this picture was taken, I've upgraded to a 24" monitor that my wife retired, but I don't want to go all-in and get a TV because I'm theoretically moving in the next 3 months or so.

Yeah! I switched from a steel Masi, so this thing was a rocket ship in comparison. The ride is stiff, but no one gets on a road bike to be comfortable, right? Given my level of fitness, I feel like getting anything nicer than this would be like a blue groomer skier going out and buying a pair of Praxis. Like "dude, the bike is not your limiting factor"
Question:
How accessible do I want my phone - on which I’m running the companion ap - I can put it in a holder on the handlebars or do I want it more loose so I can have it in my hands when sitting up? I know that in a holder I could grab it when needed and put it back when not.
Just trying to get a sense of how often during a ride or race do you need to be using the app
I think at my fitness level I’ll be so gassed that any advantage I get out of using a power burst would be negated by the drop in speed that occurs while my oxygen starved brain struggles to operate the ap and trigger the burst![]()
Only reason that I pick up my phone is to text those I'm riding with. Otherwise, direction changes, power-up activations, etc are easy enough if mounted to the bars.
I have mine mounted on my bar. No need to have it in your hand ever.
I like to use the app to type in the chat, change the camera view, change routes, u-turn, end a ride, even press a power up. I like to change the map view to see the bigger map view.
Also I really like my app to display W/Kg, and the monitor to show Watts.
Ok cool thanks that is helpful
I finally got a bar mount for the phone and it's helpful. For some reason on my setup the ERG keeps freaking out during a workout and all of a sudden I'll be grinding in thick, deep mud. So unfortunately I use the companion app to turn on/off the ERG to get it going again.
probably be the only thing I win in this group, I'll take it
