There is a bottle of EW white label under my ski waxing bench. While not super impressed with the EW single barrel, just got into a Four Roses Single Barrel. I think somewhere in the $50ish range. Pretty good. Might go grab another bottle or two for down the road.

Four Roses Single barrel fits the thread title a bit more. All I have had have been top drawer.

As far as good brown booze for the price,my current jam during these troubled times is a 1.75 of Woodford and a 1.75 of Heaven Hill.

one of the bottles from stapes collection that he graciously sold me at cost, this is the b517 Elijah Craig Small Batch barrel proof. absolutely incredible, huge flavors of caramel, peach, vanilla, creme brulee.

i am mega jealous of the OW full proof though, that's a bucket list bourbon for me

One lady looked like she was gonna cry when she heard the full proof was sold out. I was nervous her husband/boyfriend was gonna beat her down for failing at her given task.

That said, the Elijah barrel proof isn't a little better. It's a lot better than the weller full proof. If I could but a bottle of either, I'd take an Elijah every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Eta: no BS I could drive to more than one store within 10 min and have multiple bottle of that eligah. Didn't seem too "rare" to me..still delicious

I usually prefer barrel proof bourbons, but the Elijah Craig Barrel Proof I had was a little too hot for me. The alcohol burn overtook much of the taste. I added a couple drops of water and I was able to pick out a lot more flavor.

It’s just a batch code. It’s rare in that each batch has only so many bottles and once they’ve moved off the shelves you’re unlikely to see it again unless it’s dusty. Similar to the way each Rare Breed release varies in proof (I have last year’s 116.8, for example).

ETA: another example- Beam has started naming Booker’s batches rather than using codes.

Orange county to be honest don't even know it's name. Doubt you'd know it, and from it's outside strip mall looks and location you'd really think it was just a shop for local drunks to grab a gallon of pompov for the day, but it's better than any of the boutique wine and booze stores around here. I was shocked,maybe others have even better and I'm just being dumb. You'll all let me know when I post pics. Possibly tomorrow, I have a hankering.

I have a local strip mall store with a phenomenal selection of high end liquors here too. I particularly appreciate their tasting cart selection. @Woodsy next time you're passing through Danbury/Brookfield stop into the Stew Leonard's liquor store for a nice brown liquor and local beer selection.

I have batches open right now - one at 122 proof and the other at 131 proof. The 122 is super hot while the 131 gives that "Kentucky Hug" without a big burn.

Interesting. I haven’t had enough of the WFP to make a confident comparison. I’m sitting on some EC BP for the holidays.

yeah mine is at 134.2 proof and it is just smooth as can be. i've had 80proof whiskies with more burn than this, honestly.

Same opinion here. Too hot for my palate when tried neat. Plus the fact that the only availability around here is normally priced at $120+ makes me not too excited to try it again.

Those barrel proof releases come out once a quarter pretty consistently. Like so many things, the older ones in the shorter bottles seem to be made with a little better material than the current stuff. But it's splitting hairs cuz they're all good. Only truck is some of the corks on the older bottles didn't seal as well as they should and allowed for some premature oxidation. I had to bite the bullet and finish off a few bottles because they weren't holding up after being open a while.


edit No pappy. I haven't bought a bottle since my last rye back in like 2015 and I've long since finished it. That rye is still prolly the most engaging domestic whiskey I've ever tasted.
