I kinda got the impression that he was holding the line. He was mad pissed that diligent contact tracing has yielded 71% of infections coming from adults partying indoors & alcohol. He openly pushed back on ppl resisting restrictions.

He was emphatic that this is not a spike coming from gyms, restaurants, tourists or schools. Went on to say that he was listening to pediatricians & keeping schools open & economy going based upon science. Kids are not transmitting in schools, even when positive & restaurants have been effective with measures. Ended w/ ~ cant help ya if you don't believe in science.

I have been a hard ass on the tourists wanting to not quarantine, but if the sci points to dumbasses drinking at indoor parties - I have to update my views on the matter.

From what I see here in area as well.... that kids are not transmitting in schools....we are “face to face” with those rug rats all day long (w/masks)....but nobody is getting sick (yet?)....it’s definitely strange that our school has been free of spread for the past 11 weeks.

Weirds me out too how it hasnt wrecked the vt school system (knock on wood). Colleges seem to be going to hell just at the last moment though. Bringing covid back from college to your family might just become a new family tradition. Outbreaks at UVM, St mikes, and prolly Midd soon. Hope snow bowl does alright.

I certainly don’t agree with Phil Scott on all matters but I was very impressed when he said this. He was clearly directing this at the true north reports wing of the vt Republican Party.

Where you stand on state guidelines and Covid really seems to come down to how you feel about unnecessary death. I’m sure we can all agree with Phil that needless deaths should be minimized...

I on the other hand am in a different situation ...... shut down for two weeks but preparing til after Christmas in my mind. Just a few kids and staff here and there in our district.but the amount that needs to quarantine cause of one is huge. Sports being shut down as well...Hoping for all to stay safe.

Dear VARA Clubs,

Since the Goventer's new mandates last Friday we have been trying to get clarification on some questions. We understand that this is confusing and difficult but hang in there as we try and fully understand what this means for ski programs in VT. VARA simply passes information and hopefully provides clarification of what comes from the Governor's office onto clubs and members. We do not, and are not responsible for enforcement or creating any of the policies or mandates coming from the state. At this point it appears that all club, league, and recreational activities are on hold.

Below you'll find communication from Julie Moore from

on questions asked just after the mandate came out on Friday. Please note we are following up with some more questions which went to Julie today. They pertained to clarification on clubs operating under ski school/resorts, vs 501 c 3's, VS clubs who are affiliated with their academy program. I will let you know what the response is.

Please remember and please let your program members know that VARA does not create or have any role in mandates coming from the state other than passing the info along, advocate for programs and we will continue to operate as best we can.

updated guidance is now available on the Agency of Commerce and Community Development’s website
. Below I endeavor to answer the myriad questions I received:
Q:
What does today’s announcement mean?
A:
All recreational sports activities - practices, games, and tournaments - are suspended until further notice.
Q:
What sports are covered by today’s announcement?
A:
Today’s announcement applies to all organized sports and competitive recreational sports activities, including youth and adult offerings, held in both indoor and outdoor venues. Specifically, organized sports include, but are not limited to: running meets and races; soccer and indoor soccer/futsal; softball; baseball; lacrosse; basketball; ice hockey; broomball; volleyball; tennis, ball golf and disc golf play with anyone outside your immediate household; equestrian events; bass fishing tournaments; cheerleading;
alpine ski racing
; freestyle skiing competitions; snowboard racing and freestyle competitions; nordic ski racing; track and field; field hockey; ultimate frisbee; football; crew and double scull; rugby; competitive swimming; bowling leagues; gymnastics; figure skating; team dance; and, wrestling.

When do these changes take effect?
A:
At 10p tomorrow
, Saturday, 11/14.
Q:
Are there athletic activities that are NOT covered by today’s announcement?
A:
Yes. Outdoor recreation and fitness activities which require do not require physical contact with anyone outside your immediate household. This includes, but is not limited to biking, hiking, walking, running and other outdoor fitness activities; horseback riding, boating and paddle sports, fishing, hunting, photography and nature walks.
Q:
How does this comport with the guidance recently released by the
Agency of Education related to school-based winter sports programs
?
A: Fall school-based sports have ended and winter sports programs may not initiate coach-led practice sessions (e.g., skills and drills work) and inter-squad scrimmages (within a school program)
before Monday, 11/30
. This date may be revisited if rates of infection and health trends do not show significant improvement between now and later this month.

until 12/15

A:
Addendum #8 to Executive Order 01-20
, issued earlier today, extends the declared State of Emergency until at least
12/15
. As the Governor indicated in his remarks today,
he is committed to reviewing several of the specific measures identified in the addendum, including recreational sports, weekly in order to determine whether and when the data support a return to play, which may be sooner than
12/15
. Please keep in mind, the suspension may also be extended beyond
12/15
if there is little change (or further deterioration) in the rate of infection and other health trends.
