I have heard rumor that vara had to cancel all races this year. The gov said only VPA sports were allowed. VARA isn’t VPA sanctioned... gonna suck if that’s the case for all the kids in ski academies that literally can’t do shit and pay big bucks for it and the kids in general. But dam I would of lost my shit sitting at carrabassett valley and not being able to ski.

Ugh. That is the way the wording of the executive order reads to me, as well, but I was hoping that VARA would find some wiggle room. Is training still allowed?

I was feeling pretty good about the guidelines USSS had put out—they were going to be a pain in the ass in some regards, but I thought they came down solidly on the side of science-backed caution—but having even the limited schedule that was planned cancelled by the state sucks. I really, really hope Maine doesn't follow suit; it would suck for the kids, but there's also a knock-on economic impact, and the hardgoods suppliers, shops, and others are probably going to feel it this year and next if we don't race this year.

Of course, all of that presupposes a lift-served season with snowmaking and grooming, and at this point, that seems far from guaranteed.

The studies keep showing the areas of most risk are indoor dining, bars, gyms, and hotels. Never saw anything about walking with your neighbor being risky but I am no expert.

I realize that's what the published studies have shown, but I'm wondering what Vermont has seen in their contact tracing. I think they noted 71% (?) of cases were picked up in non-public settings, so maybe the general restrictions there are effective enough to address the weak points those studies identified, and we're seeing the next level of weak spots for transmission?

Not to be a smartass....Just want to confirm...u guys that believe we should do a hard shut down...for weeks/a month.......do u mean nationwide?..including “all” businesses, schools, professional, college, HS, AAU, youth sports/activities, etc..across the country?

You mean a true lock down at home/nobody allowed outside except to go to doctor/grocery store?

Cuz as people call for a true hard lock down “they” shouldn’t be watching college football today....watching the Masters tomorrow, or taking kids to their soccer practice on Monday. Should the Big10, ACC, SEC and others be playing while the Ivy, Patriot league and others cancel all sports for the year?

*I’ve been in school/coaching for 11 weeks....with no spread issues in our schools/community yet........we wear masks can’t really social distance with full in person school but we/I wash our hands a lot?...our lake community even though it is very transient with NY/NJ tourists has been lucky? Should we do a hard lock down too?

I don’t know what the answer is....life sucks for everyone....but if u call for a total hard lock down, it’s gotta be everything/nationwide right? Will it be?/should it be?

A little off topic but kind of relevant...

I hate that the virus is making it that mom and pop and small/er stores, coffee shops, brewers, restaurants, ski areas etc etc are all getting squeezed and the ones that will survive and maybe even thrive are big chains, mega corporations, resort owners.

I’m guilty since I use Amazon every god damn day.

Hope all the things that make VT, NH and the dacks so great all find a way to survive all this shit.

Other than people dieing, and the working class footing the bill for middle class and up in the risk category, this is the worst thing out there.

In my opinion, this virus is bring out some of the worst in our economic system. I've been trying to support smaller VT companies when possible, tipping heavily on take-out, etc. But also very guilty of amazon fixes, but its also helped me avoid contact, and thus, the cycle.


On another note, I went into OGX the other day to pick up skis I ordered (10% to CTA and 10% off deal was pretty rad if you ask me) and couldnt believe the amount of people in restaurants. Sweetwaters, oooof. I couldnt imagine going into establishments like this, although I suppose OGX was packed too, but it freaked me out.
