I got threatened to be put on some kind of list for ducking a rope to take a piss even though my friend was waiting for me on the other side of the rope line. There are cool patrol and there are drunk on power mall cop patrol.

Conditions are only right to hit The Counterbalance once every few years. You need a strong easterly flow and a lot moisture to get snow there, then a dry spell to keep it there long enough, combined with SDOT doing a mediocre enough job so you can actually drive there but enough mayhem that SPD Parking Authority calls the day off so you don’t get a ticket when you overstay your two hours. I almost scored in 2018. I’m pretty sure Cody should rename his series “The Fifty-One” and try to climb and ski it.

You realize you are calling out every single backcountry skier in Western Washington? I don't care how badass anyone thinks they are we all cut our chops at Bullion Basin, Source/Snow Lake, Skyline Ridge and Bagley Lakes. Starting on dry dirt and hiking into mid winter pow is a unique and fun PNW experience, but it's not like every tour must include a gnar approach. And BC and AK are about the only places that rival WA on gnar approaches.

If there's enough snow, go for a lap with the new touring setup to learn how Shifts work.
Go to DruBru and buyout their stock of Ski Patrol.

That's the plan for now atleast.
This was my plan today. Silver Fir lot still gated and not plowed.

So Headed to Hyak to take the pup for a walk. Classic heavy cement, low angle had to ride my ski track.

Better than NOT skiing I guess.

Also discovered Thule makes a dog shit carrier so you don’t stink up your car. No need to leave terds in the skin track anymore folks.

It’s sad that a post of dog shit is stoke in here.

I guess with the lawyer cunting up every thread with him having to prove to everyone how much he knows. Must be insecurity I guess.

No off button with that guy, be an actual human person. No one gives a shit what you know.

Probably a nice guy in real life but annoying as shit.

It has been a tough year for a lot of folks(including myself) so I'm trying to cut everyone a little slack and be kind to my fellow human. We are here because we are stoked on skiing so lets not forget that. We will all feel better once we are carving up some turns

I don't have ski stoke to post, but it felt nice to convene in nature this week.

I didn’t realize WA was limited to the Puget Sound area, my bad. I doubt every single backcountry skier in Western WA cut their teeth as you describe.

I’ll take the Brit at his word that you’re nice irl but you’re a know it all whiny cunt here.

Assume ski areas all shut down parking for non-lift users, and 500 cars have to find parking for human powered travel on a nice weekend.
No sleds required, a reasonable day trip, mid-winter so forest roads are snowed in, and within 3 hours of the Puget Sound area. If you consider that a narrow goalpost, well... that is what the vast majority of WA BC skiers are looking for.

MRNP: gate doesn't open when the skiing is good
SR410: a little bit off Corral Pass Rd, but long road skin.
I90: west of the pass there's McClellan and Granite areas, but often high avy risk and/or poor snow quality. Not much east of the pass that can be considered good skiing, and Hyak, Gold, Crystal Springs Sno-Parks don't count since they're already over capacity today.
US2: nothing west of the pass. A few good options east of the pass, but they're small pullouts with room for only a handful of cars each.
Blewett: rarely does much there fall into the "good skiing" category, and small pullouts.
    Mtn Loop: long road skins
Hwy20: one option, and it's a long road skin now that they've moved the gate downhill.
SR542: long road skins. Ski area says you can park on the 542 loop, but that's going to fill fast.

It's a problem already and it's only going to keep getting worse. I'd guess that something like 75% of current WA ski tour user-days originate from ski area leased land.

I’m glad you think this way. I’ll remain happy here East of the crest. I haven’t driven more than an hour to ski, backcountry or lift served in nearly 20 years. The exception being out of state or country.

Good for you (seriously, that's awesome). Likewise I drive 30 mins to Snoqualmie environs the vast majority of my days, but that is almost always parking on ski area land.

Even if you don't sympathize with the westsiders, it's going to effect you eventually. The more it goes on like this, the more westsiders will be "invading" your precious lands.

This thread got cunted up quick. Not even a dozen pages. Go skiing all of you. What will we do when cars get left at snoqualmie pass because their new to winter exploring owners got lost in the middle fork and starved/froze to death?

Hopefully ski areas will allow some back country use parking and up hill travel in three to five weeks when we go back into a shut down.

You guys can bitch and moan all you want, and with the explosion in population I can see how WWA isn't the Shangri-La it once was, but the fact of the matter is that you still have it ridiculously good as far as quantity, quality and accessibility of skiing goes.

Stay safe and have fun this winter, and spring, and summer, because you live in a place that is more conducive to having a 10 month ski season than anywhere else in the lower 48.

That was my nice post for the month, I'm going back to being a curmudgeon now.

Thanks man. The resourceful will have a great season, as always.

Good luck in Colorado, and mind that continental pack out there!

Easy season Nash runs are such a treat.

There's a dense layer below the top few inches of fluff, but it actually works out pretty nice that way. Helps keep you on top and avoid the rocks.Name: PXL_20201114_191328906~2.jpeg

Yeah that account is harrowing. If you're hypothermic to the point that you need ECMO you are -millimeters- away from death. If that person were on my service I would be shitting my pants.

That’s crazy, dude was in the right place at the right time (except for the whole volcano whiteout part).

Poaching. Yeah, good for you. Shit like that is why we will continue to lose uphill access at Crystal.
