Killington made snow overnight and I’m sure they weren’t the only ones so I can’t imagine that this is accurate, unless more pressure gets put on them from the governors next week.

FTR, I wasn't blaming visitors just making a point about the lack of sensibility in some of the new guidance. I don't care if you are a VT'er or from anywhere else in the world, just use some common sense in your daily life and think more about how your actions could potentially effect others and hopefully, we'll get through the winter with a lot less death than we saw in the spring.

I wouldn’t say we did a hard closure, or at least people didn’t adhere to it. During stay at home people were coming back and forth to their condos and houses all the time. They were coming up from MA to skin the hill. We all have the potential to be a link in the chain to someone else’s death. So taking your chances with the virus isn’t a solo endeavor

There is a lot of blame to go around but when you have people who haven't seen friends and the large majority of their family since March the holier-than-thou attitude for some gets old. I'm an RN, we follow the rules, I haven't had a draft beer in 8 months and haven't had a meal in a restaurant in the same time frame. My kids didn't see their friends until they started school and only see half of who they would like to see. We are all negative and love to ski but VT is making it impossible for us to do so.

I get the frustration with people. The entitlement is real and the large majority is basically saying fuck you to everyone else I want what I want, including a bunch of people on here.
For my own mental well-being I hope they never open because I know I will never be able to quarantine 14 days or 7 with a negative test before the two or three weekend trips to Vt we have planned. If I know the lifts are spinning and I can't get out I'm going to be a miserable fuck this coming year.

    Everone stay safe

East Coast Roll Call #??? 20-21 Covid closures and hard core touring! Be Fit or Sit

Not to be a smartass....Just want to confirm...u guys that believe we should do a hard shut down...for weeks/a month.......do u mean nationwide?..including “all” businesses, schools, professional, college, HS, AAU, youth sports/activities, etc..across the country?

You mean a true lock down at home/nobody allowed outside except to go to doctor/grocery store?

Cuz as people call for a true hard lock down “they” shouldn’t be watching college football today....watching the Masters tomorrow, or taking kids to their soccer practice on Monday. Should the Big10, ACC, SEC and others be playing while the Ivy, Patriot league and others cancel all sports for the year?

*I’ve been in school/coaching for 11 weeks....with no spread issues in our schools/community yet........we wear masks can’t really social distance with full in person school but we/I wash our hands a lot?...our lake community even though it is very transient with NY/NJ tourists has been lucky? Should we do a hard lock down too?

I don’t know what the answer is....life sucks for everyone....but if u call for a total hard lock down, it’s gotta be everything/nationwide right? Will it be?/should it be?

Sorry, I just want more stoke....anyway/anyhow to get it this year...I’m in.

Anyone know the instate out of state breakdown of skier visits?

I can’t see many resorts in VT being profitable under this border wall.

And consider not just skier days but also day tickets. Can they really spin the lifts 7 days a week just for local passholders?

The idea of sacrificing a couple of weeks to end up with no COVID in the US is enticing yet very unrealistic. It only takes a handful of folks to have the virus post lockdown for it to spread like wildfire again.

Access to accurate rapid and daily testing would sure solve the problem but don’t think we are there yet. Korea seemed to have had it figured out with that method.

I never thought I’d say that I miss the soup pics and the mediocre ski/stick photography.

No more soup pics for you (or anyone)! According to the "ECRC moderator".
    Its verboten!
For real, tho. If we had a coordinated federal response to all this shit we could get through it:
Shut everything down (everything!) for 3 weeks.
Gov't takes care of everyone during that time (stimulus and whatnot)
    National testing for everyone
Quarantine sick/pos cases and give them the best health care to recover
    Problem solved.
If we can find 4 trillion to prop up the stock market and military, we can pay for this easily

At the risk of getting this thread back on track and serving as a point to move forward, EVERYTHING IS DIFFERENT NOW.

Here’s what I’ve done to increase my odds of making the East Coast roll call...

    •Skis ready
    •New pack from Mystery Ranch
•craps in the car skins on
    •ready for any window

I hope some of you can do the same!

I havent seen anyone offering, but I would happily pay killington, sugarbush or bolton significantly more than they are asking for a season uphill travel pass if they wanted to keep an area running for just those folks or something. Even if it was only mid week. I cant think of a way I would be comfortable waiting in lift lines or even crossing peoples germ paths on ski trails. Unless maybe they had a few more local only days.

It might also lessen the load on the few official BC areas there are as well.

Definitely feeling for people in the industry though.

A little off topic but kind of relevant...

I hate that the virus is making it that mom and pop and small/er stores, coffee shops, brewers, restaurants, ski areas etc etc are all getting squeezed and the ones that will survive and maybe even thrive are big chains, mega corporations, resort owners.

I’m guilty since I use Amazon every god damn day.

Hope all the things that make VT, NH and the dacks so great all find a way to survive all this shit.

I'm shopping for boots, have a pair of Mantra 102's waiting at the shop for me and wondering if I should decommission my pure W99's in favor of a touring setup that will be a little more comfy to ski on hardpack since I figure that will get used more at the hill this year

Killingtons creation is amazing. I had no idea.

Took a break from work and found this on my way searching for skier visit data

According to a Benchmark Study of Tourism in Vermont done by the Vermont Department of Tourism and Marketing, in 2017 total tourism brought $2.8 billion into Vermont, up from $2.6 billion in 2015.

According to Ski Vermont, $1.6 billion of that is due to the ski and snowboarding industry.

“Winter makes Vermont unique,” says the study. “Vermont sees strong economic activity during the winter that neighbors like New York and New Hampshire do not.”

It's not only lift tickets that bring money to the state, but the sale of equipment, clothing, gasoline, restaurant meals, hotel bookings, gift items, local events, and a host of other economic drivers. Also, it’s mainly tourists who can fill the vacant coffers of the state’s rooms and meals tax.

VT is in for a world of hurt of this ski season is canceled. Hopefully the next two weeks of tighter restrictions allow the Gov to keep turning the spigot the other way.

I bought a Line Sakana with that thought. You’re welcome to try mine if our paths cross. I’ve got some Loaf days to use up early season if that happens.

I'm assuming--and this could be giving the government too much credit, but it's the only thing that makes sense to me--is that they're using what they've learned doing contact tracing to develop the new restrictions.

I'm also willing to bet that walking outdoors, 10 feet from your neighbor, is close enough to zero risk to call it that, but that they've found enough spread via "socially distant" meetups where people didn't maintain adequate spacial awareness and ended up not so distant that they've decided to ban then entirely. That's entirely a guess on my part, but usually the answer to "why can't we have nice things?" involves people who can't be bothered to behave in a socially responsible way.

Restaurants are more closely regulated, operating at low capacity, only seating households together, and--my guess--haven't proven to be as significant in the spread as a result.

I'm not directly connected to the Vermont racing world at this point, but the state organization (VARA) posted the updated executive order without additional comment. I'm not sure what to make of that.

I have heard rumor that vara had to cancel all races this year. The gov said only VPA sports were allowed. VARA isn’t VPA sanctioned... gonna suck if that’s the case for all the kids in ski academies that literally can’t do shit and pay big bucks for it and the kids in general. But dam I would of lost my shit sitting at carrabassett valley and not being able to ski.

The studies keep showing the areas of most risk are indoor dining, bars, gyms, and hotels. Never saw anything about walking with your neighbor being risky but I am no expert.
