Damn cats... See another critter, investigate (by swatting at it a bunch), get mad that it reacts, kill it (not so quickly), then ignore it and lounge around for the camera.

This came up on the feed today and I thought it was pretty fascinating:
Bird breaks world record by flying 12,000+km from Alaska to New Zealand nonstop
I still call it The Jake.
Amazing stuff for sure.
It would have made it to the South Pole if it didn't have to lug the tracking device.
Very cool.
I had a dream last night that I was petting two mountain lions if that counts for anything.
swing your fucking sword.
wow
I didn't believe in reincarnation when I was your age either.
I've only seen a fox once--running across I80 in the Sierra foothills right in front of my car one night.
Squirrels probably don't deserve to be in this thread but walking our cockapoo today an immature gray squirrel was looking for pine nuts on a neighbor's parking pad that has retaining walls on 3 sides. The dog had it cornered while it zigged and zagged for about a minute before it got away and up a tree. Pretty amazing how quick it was, but almost not quick enough. Bet it doesn't make the same mistake again. If you're a squirrel always know where the nearest tree or hole in the ground is, depending on what kind of squirrel you are. There's a ground squirrel on our deck that likes to hide in flower pots.
My fox to squirrel ratio is at least 3:1.

We have several fox dens around here. Last spring, they used the den behind my house. It was cool to see the kits out during the day playing.
Saw two foxes yesterday evening on the way home from a hike.
Foxes don't bother me, they're kind of cool to see. I did not know they were little thieves. One summer, I kept finding things from my backyard in the pasture behind my house that they would carry off. I figured the den behind my house is probably full of kids toys and dog toys from over the years.
That rules out that fox ever getting in to Australia.

That’s wild.
I’ve posted our scrawny neighborhood fox up thread who decided to become a regular fixture when everything stopped during the lockdown.
Little guy stopped in front of my car last week to scratch his ear for 37 seconds. Looked back like my bad, and trotted off down the middle of the road.
I still call it The Jake.
Lots of foxes around here, they like hanging around houses and people because the coyotes won't come near. There's literally a den 100 feet from our chicken coop.
I haven't seen many lately during daylight, but the other morning in the new snow fox tracks came right up to our kitchen slider. One of them decided to take a look in our the door during the night.
