I'm pretty sure it is a Bomber Z1, just with Fox branding and OEM-only. The Z1 is reportedly only 170 g heavier than a 36 Factory. Also, and I don't know if this is true for the 2021 models, but the older Rythms couldn't be upgraded to the Grip2 damper. Neither is a big concern for me, that's a pretty small weight penalty and any upgrades will just involve a new fork.

Are you buying direct off the website or from a shop?

From a shop. Supposedly they have one coming but I’m not gonna hold my breath or sell my current whip until this one shows in the flesh.

I’ve been using a Z1 for the past two seasons and with frequent service it is a fantastic fork for my needs. Feels a lot closer to the supportive 2016 era 36s which I prefer.

It has a nearly identical build compared to the Trance or Meta but the frame is a full 2 lbs lighter.

eta: Oh, yeah, and apparently the EVO will be available next month vs. March (maybe) for the Meta.
Yeh, just looked at US website and you are right. But weight is even higher! 34.83lns. And still $300more than the Giant. Not sure if you can get a deal on the Meta, but I was buying two bikes so got $500 bucks off the pair. Not so much, but this year anything is a bonus.

I think you may be looking at the wrong build and/or site. Commencalusa.com says 33.06 lbs/15 kg and $3,299 for the Essential, which is $99 more than the Trance.

Local shop says they have a Size 2 EVO Comp in Gloss Clay inbound. I put down a deposit.

Probably, it’s hard to get the sites to stay on US version when you are in Canada, they keep wanting to hide how much different what we get is.

I love the idea, but you can get there for a lot less than $12,500... My previous gen Trek Emonda SLR also weighs just over 14#, and it too has the traditional look, but also rim brakes which are lighter and work just fine. Mine has slightly deeper wheels, so I could def shave some weight there but it's not worth the cost for me.

I will say that the magic of a crazy light bike is something people should experience. Even though I know it's not as fast as a more aero one, even on the steep climbs I favor, it just feels so amazing to ride.

A side note on aero: those new completely integrated cockpits must be an absolute nightmare to get connected. Imagine changing a brake line when it not only goes through the frame but also the steerer tube, stem, and handlebars!

Also this. As much as they seem to be creating some good new designs lately, I can't forget what they did to the Roubaix café etc.

What I really like about this bike is the geometry is super close to my 10 year old Skeletor. Finally someone, even if it is one of the evil empires, got around to copying great geometry in plastic. I still love my beer can tubes though.

That is such a good looking bike, so clean. I don’t care for aero bikes in the least. Love a clean climbing machine.

The best part is the it only has one little "S" logo on the head tube. No big brand logo on the downtube. TREK is the worst for this.

Trek does some of the best paint jobs in the industry. Their bikes always look good.

This large is the first I’ve received in the shop. Haven’t done more than a neighborhood test ride.
I’ve got a lot of time on the Rascal over the past 2 months. That bike is fucking awesome.

I'm kinda blown away that those bikes didn't disappear off your floor within a week of showing up. The bike market in Durango has been nuts this summer. I guess all those clapped out 2010ish era bikes I saw on facebook marketplace for 2k+ actually sold lol.

The Rascal seems tailor made for the trails around SW CO.

Do I detect a lot of anger flowing around this place? Kind of like a pubescent volatility, some angst, a lot of I'm-sixteen-and-angry-at-my-father syndrome?

    fuck that noise.

Any of you own a newer Alchemy Arktos 29?
The geo is spot on for me (long legs, shorter torso).
Considering one instead of a ‘21 Instinct. Still going to buy a new Altitude, though.

    Hmm, tepid review here...

^^^ My friend had one last year and liked the bike, but had major problems with the pivot hardware and getting Alchemy to take responsibility. He basically took a huge loss on the bike just to get rid of it, and said he knew of a few others doing the same thing. Personally I think they look ugly and cheap.

My mind changes by the day between keeping my 27.5 trance and adding a new hardtail 29er OR selling my trance and getting a new 29er FS. I've been lusting after a Guerrilla Gravity for a while now (smash or trail pistola), but I also can't ignore the price on the new aluminum Trance X 29er. Since I already can't make a decision, someone should throw more options at me.

Wonder if I'll even be able to find a Trance though.
