Pretty sure you don't want face insulation in their on top of foam, it creates a double vapor barrier and traps moisture.

It's only 1/2" styrofoam, so R value of about 4. Floor joists are 2x6; guess I'll have to exchange.

Stairway opening as part of a full floor remodel. Didnt want to deal with doing a major structural overhaul so we did some post wraps. Sure is nice to get rid of all that drywall.

Building a pergola with gabled roof over my existing deck, 14’ x 12’. Plan to install plastic drop cloth in the winter like outdoor seating on bar patios.

Funny how this all started as a small project to give the dog a comfortable place to hang out during winter rain and snow.
Turned into a mission to create year round beer drinking space for me.

Got about 40 feet of flagstone sidewalk done the past two days. It’s not the labor that sucks, it’s trying to fit rocks like puzzle pieces and then leveling each one.

Nice work. When I was hauling flagstone for guys lay stone patios one thing that awed me was how well they cut bigger pieces down to fit. With a hammer.

Flagstone walks look cool, but after having one for three winters in BCC, I would never install one anywhere that sees significant snowfall. Among the most annoying surfaces to have to shovel.

TFT, those spans look a bit long for 6x6 beams, even if it is just a pergola, and please tell me you poured new footings and attached your posts to them.

Seatown, I can tell you didn't get a permit for your deck, which is required if it's attached to your house, but IDGAF, it's so close to the ground it doesn't pose a hazard to anyone.

Buster, not sure what you're building, nor do I care, but most rigid foam insulation has a R-value of 5/inch. If you're interested in getting close to R-30 insulation in your underfloor, filling the cavities with rigid would be an option. Probably more expensive than batts, but cheaper than spray foam.

I found an older Herman Miller adjustable desk on CL for cheap. Heavy AF. Popped the top and threw a butcher block on top. Bombproof sit stand with lightning fast adjustment and no electric motor (giant garage door spring in the cross member) for less than a quarter of the original cost.

Thanks for the input. What are your thoughts on maximum beam span for 6x6? The length I built falls within recommended distance for the pergola base and bracket system I purchased (Toja Grid).

The posts are mounted to Toja Grid post bases (designed for mounting pergolas to pre-existing structures). The bases are mounted to the deck with 1/2” x 6” lag screws, through the decking into 2x10 joists or 2x10 blocking between joists.

Given that the Toja Grid system is designed for this type of install, would you still recommend new footings and attaching posts to them?

I didn't build it but sure refinished it.
Found in the neighborhood during large garbage pickup. Looked turn of the century based on the paper I removed. Wire brush (brass) and a variety of grits of paper for the inside. Bitch removing the paper.
Put 2 coats of clear coat on the outside, and will paint inside with a nice pop of color. Have to fix a hinge missing a few nails. Put the lock latch back on, replace the handles, and that should take care of the outside.
I'm hoping the hipster set will eat it up.
Will post again finished product. Here's so far.
