I agree there are plenty of nuts out there, and it's totally possible a group of them would take advantage of the weather to attempt fire mayhem. Working against this is it seems to take many ignitions to cause a fire start, and many fire starts before one happens in the exact right spot and time to go big. Discarded cigarettes start lots of road shoulder fires... most go nowhere.

Increasing smoke is expected! A change from the current easterly wind pattern to a westerly wind will take place late today and persist through the weekend. This will begin to transport smoke from the large fires west of the Cascades across eastern Oregon and Washington this afternoon and overnight. Otherwise, a breezy Sunday is expected with a cold front Monday prompting breezy and cool conditions. Rain chances return to the forecast Tuesday and Wednesday.

Yea. I live a long way from you. The weather is nice and cool. I went to the store. Bright and sunny. But to the south you could see it coming. Dark sky. Like a storm. Blots out the mountains. The smoke from the fires. It's really bad. And it's every where.
I am convinced this is caused by bad humans. And not by accident

My friends at Peaceful Valley Donkey rescue in Oregon City have been out rescuing livestock for the last couple of days. Hoping they won't have to evac themselves. Crazy that the green side of the state is suffering so bad.

    2020 Wildfire Season

Here’s some post fire footage from this morning in Talent, OR. I have one friend who lost her place in Talent. She was supposed to start her new job at the HS this week. I’m guessing several school staff and children are now homeless.

bumping the gofund me for the couple - the dad is no longer intubated and the pregnant mom is stable. They both will need multiple surgeries for their burns.

Storm hood, probably most of us agree with your last post. I’m testy today keeping an eye out on the weather and smoke conditions.

The constantly shifting winds during the last week would make some sort of highly coordinated conspiracy difficult to pull off. Unless Teh Globalist Pedo Illuminati control micro and macro weather patterns.

Anyway this shit sucks. Friends and family scattered all over PNW and NorCal who are at risk. Vibes to everyone affected. Ullr drop some precip

Just learned that a friend’s house in Phoenix OR somehow wasn’t burned down. The pics from there are brutal.

I worked at the Lake Oswego Hunt Club and it was so lush in that part of town! It is crazy thinking about a major fire situation over there. What a nightmare, stay safe KQ and everyone else. Thankfully the snow mostly put out a 100k acre fire west of Ft Collins.

Okay... you've got to wonder about these fires. 5th one near this location today. Maybe it's a poorly discarded cigarette maybe it's something else:

Fire responding to yet another brush fire on the west side, this one at Capital Mall and Cooper Point near Fujiyama. Multiple callers advising 20 by 20 and moving quickly.
Cooper Point Rd is being shut down both directions at Capital Mall Dr and Mall Loop Rd.

On the first day of the first month in some distant year
    The whole sky froze golden
Some said it was the aftermath of the radium bomb
While the others told of a final retribution
A terrible revenge of the Gods
But we understood the grand finale
Fulfillment of a prophecy told many years before
So all that was left was
All the women were captured and chained
    And national suicide was proclaimed
And new America fell to the ground
And all the children lay crippled lame
But all the nations came together
In fear of the thought of the end
No more would we fight in the streets
No courage had we to defend
When the walls came tumbling down
When the walls came tumbling down
Everybody ran as they screamed at the sound
When the walls came tumbling down
When the walls came tumbling down
When the walls came tumbling down
Everybody ran as they screamed at the sound
A blinding light the sun had died a new moon took its place
Tidal waves and open graves the fate of the unhuman race
The city's heart no longer beats no pity have I left to lend
A sinner sits reciting Dylan it's now that I welcome the end

Recreation becomes ‘wreckreation’ as careless outdoor adventures turn destructive, spark wildfires

Recreation is turning into “wreckreation,” as COVID-cabin-fevered hikers, campers and day-trippers venture out and damage public lands all over the state — including, it seems, sparking wildfires with careless or clueless behavior.

“We are experiencing people who don’t normally go outdoors, but it’s what they have, with nowhere else to go to get away from the chaos,” said Janet Pearce, spokesperson for the state Department of Natural Resources (DNR). “But they are bringing that chaos to our trails.”

Some of the fires the state DNR is presently fighting — across hundreds of thousands of acres, at great cost of public money and risk to firefighters — were started when power lines were downed by high winds over the holiday weekend. But many were caused by humans.

At least 107 of the 815 fires on DNR land so far this year were caused by recreation, according to the agency. More than twice that many were caused by burning debris. Nearly 30 were classified as arson.

Public land managers say they’re fit to be tied with the behavior of people this summer who either don’t know or don’t care what they’re doing in the woods.

In this hot, dry weather, grass and brush are like tinder, and Pearce said it doesn’t take much to set them ablaze: Campfires not properly put out. Sending sparks out when firing up an off-road vehicle. A cigarette flicked out a car window. Illegal fireworks.

That’s not all, stewards of public lands say. When people head outdoors in Washington — to the tidelands, beaches, parks and forests that make Washington so special — they’re just plain making a mess.

    Let us count the ways:

There are the hikers who bash through wildflowers or fragile sagelands to make their own trail, and campers who make their own campsites wherever they see fit. From a lack of trail etiquette to bags of dog waste and trash strewn around, Leave No Trace is being left behind.

And the crowds pushing into areas already so overrun that the parking lot is full and cars are parked for miles down the road. Really. Miles.

Then there are those who avoid the flush toilets in state parks and opt to bring their own portable potty, then empty it in a dumpster for state parks staff to deal with.

But the scariest foible is fire.

“Mostly, its campfires not properly put out,” Pearce said. “Fireworks are also a huge problem, and they are illegal on DNR lands.”

Agency land managers are sympathetic with people aching to get out and enjoy the state’s public lands — but they urge visitors to recreate responsibly.

“People are just trashing the land and not taking out what they take in. It has caused a real headache, making these lands into a dumping ground,” Pearce said. “It’s the clueless factor. We need to reach these people who don’t care. Yes, it is your land. But you have to protect it.”

Bringing new people to outdoor recreation is a good thing, said Anna Gill, communication director for Washington State Parks. But there has to be an ethic that goes along with every park visit. Too many people are forgetting that — or never learned it.

“Overall, what we are seeing are people coming to our parks that are new to outdoor recreation, and there is a lack of understanding, awareness and protocol,” Gill said. “We are trying to educate people as much as possible.”

That’s all the harder for land managers already dealing with budget and staffing cratered by the pandemic. “We are doing a lot more work with less people,” Gill said.

Search and rescue crews also have been run ragged by unprepared and lost hikers this season. Olympic National Park had a total of 22 search-and-rescue incidents just in the month of July. Park staff urge visitors to bring the 10 essentials — and know how to use them.

At times this summer, the crowds have been so large or the risk to public lands so high, agencies have closed public lands in order to protect them.

The DNR on Tuesday closed all its recreation lands east of the mountains to protect them during dangerous fire conditions as tinder-dry fuels, high winds, and hot weather stoked fire risk.

“Anything can cause a spark. It is so scary. Things can start accidentally,” Pearce said. “We can’t afford another large fire in our state.”

I am riding the middle ground on this issue. I do not believe in Deep State or that this is work of some mass terrorist act. However, I do know that there are arsonist who act independently and with the goading of various social circles, and they could have easily been operating under the same derangement and desire to cause harm during an opportune time. Some of these people have recently been arrested

I am sorry for all those harmed in these fires and best wishes to everyone.
How about you skip the deduced conclusions and stick to verifiable fact and cite your sources?

Authorities are investigating the Almeda fire as an arson after discovering human remains in Ashland, the city police chief said.

However, “one thing I can say is that the rumor it was set by Antifa is 100% false information,” the police chief said by email. “We have some leads, and none of it points in that direction.”

To put it in perspective, of Oregon's 4.2 million residents, about 4.2 million of them are going about their lives. Hundreds have lost their homes. While that's terrible if you're one of those hundreds, and we feel for them, it is nothing. But, SH, go ahead and panic.
    Well, that aged poorly.

An estimated 500,000 Oregonians have been evacuated and that number continues to grow.
We're down to 3.7 million of them going about their lives, some of them surely hosting evacuees.

And social distancing, staying out of bars and restaurants, wearing a mask, trying to work from home while their kids try to learn from home, spending nights throwing Molotov cocktails and throwing firecrackers at cops is hardly going about their lives.

Holy shit, I just looked at the monster that's going off SE of Portland. Some suburbs of Oregon's biggest city may not quite be threatened, but they're seriously smoked out, and getting nervous.

And, just under a year ago, recovering from a broken ankle, I traveled to do a quiet camping trip and my first big ride, northward uphill out of Happy Camp CA on the Klamath into Oregon. I just looked up the map to see that the entirety of that beautiful ride is burnt now. Ugh.

Can someone help me out here:

Did I miss the part where the leader of our country flew out to the west coast to survey the damage and offer his heartfelt condolences to those citizens who have lost everything?

Just asking. I'm sure it happened, didn't it?
