    Shit that annoys you

I live in a similarly mild clime, with summer time highs usually capping out in the mid-80s and temperatures cooling to the 50s or 60s at night. This summer has been unusual in that the nighttime lows are much more likely to hover in the upper 60s or 70s.

With that, and with my oldest moving into the attic bedroom, which gets pretty warm, I finally caved on a portable AC. After a few hot nights when she was at her moms, figured what the hell and hauled it into my bedroom... and it was glorious. Add working from home into the mix and I have 3 of them, now, though they are only run fairly infrequently when it gets much above 80 and doesn’t cool at night, and even then just a few hours/day.

I hear you on adding to the problem and I’ve resisted for the last two decades, but it’s been pretty fantastic and those summer nights are more enjoyable for a whole variety of reasons when you don’t have to lay on top of the sheets at least 18” apart all night.

OG: seems like at your age you should be well into the declining tolerance for heat ( I certainly am); if not I'm insanely jealous

Wait a minute, what? I thought older people loved the heat. Why the hell else would they move to Arizona and Florida?

Right. My grandpa had his thermostat permanently set to 80. And he wore dress pants and a dress shirt every day.

Hah. Maybe. He was a physician, though... practiced into his 80s...

Skinny old guy... maybe that was it. Just figured it was because he was old.

I'm well into declining tolerance for everything, but not heat in particular.

My grandpa had the thermostat set to about 75 because he was cheap, and my grandma constantly complained she was cold - even while wearing the thickest wool sweaters I've ever seen.

The TV was always on, and always on Fox, with the volume at full (except during golf season)

Same, except it was ESPN, especially during the NBA season, of all things.

He was a miserable and contrary old bastard, but I do miss him.

Shit that annoys me: one of my dogs is a sudden pooper, in that we’ll be walking and she will suddenly be pooping (sometimes while still walking, like a goddamned horse), with no wind up or particular tell. Typically, this is a Thing That Amuses Me, but today she ended up shitting on her leash and I had to manage not letting the leash brush up on her or my other dog for the rest of the walk home.

I'm cheaper. 65 during the day, 55 at night. But we have a cast iron wood stove and the radiant heat makes the low air temp comfortable, and I warm the sheets with an electric blanket before I get in bed and pull the down over me.

Watching cars go around in a circle for hours and you're bored by the ads? (You knew that was coming, didn't you?)

Gentlemen, AHEM ..... please stipulate the SEASONAL high and low settings. Assuming if it's cheap to set at 75 it's summer? And if it's 65, it's winter?? Apple, meet orange.

The amount of out of state plates around from more than a state away. NY, NJ, PA, CT. Wtf. GTFO!

The whole state should adopt the Green Woodlands rule. NH, VT, and ME plates only.

I don't think I ever saw my grandfather in anything but slacks and a button down - usually short sleeve (he was an engineer

Oh... yeah guess he wore chinos like pants and a flannel shirt when he fished but it was still a button down. I'm positive I NEVER saw him in a T or sweat shirt.

    This.

    And I live somewhere hot.

That said - we *did* turn the A/C on a couple times in July.

I have to keep our house at 70* during the day to avoid my wife's wrath in the winter...

I was getting these frequently, no idea why. I read somewhere online that lysine supplements sometimes help, so I tried it. No canker sores since, so it seems like it's working.

I ordered them through Amazon, 1000mg tablets, taking one per day.

Yeah - tried that many moons ago. Didn't help.

Mine are generally due to acidic foods and/or mouth trauma.

Since it's tomato season... I'm just dealing with it.
