She's been posted before, but cleans up purty. Still a super fun car to drive 12 years later and nearly 170k on the clock. Quirky as hell. Click image for larger version.

My wife has the exact car ('07) in black with 77k on the clock. Great car, though we just had to drop a bunch of $ on a new main seal. Planning to keep it for another 10 years.

Cracks me up how with a Saab, making it that far is a big accomplishment. Same with newer BMWs. I really have always like Saabs tho. Wish they'd make a comeback somehow in all their quirky Swedish glory.

Looking for a wagon. Budget is anywhere from 5-6 k.
Anyone have any real world thoughts on an Audi a4 wagon ?
Just how reliable are they ?
Leaning toward a mazda 6 wagon
What if "Alternative" energy wasn't so alternative ?

Lol Audi and reliability don't often go together. At that price I'd expect a money pit unless you wrench.

Welp, looks like this 1973 Country Squire just edged out your budget. Full-on proof BaT is full of insane people.

Re: Audi reliability; the Audis that fall in your price range will unfortunately fall into that “expensive to maintain and will be prone to major service issues”. So will every Volvo, Mercedes, BMW and other decent wagon manufacturer.

That said. All of those brands have come a long long way and all make completely reliable wagons these days. (Audi is what, #6 on most reliable brands from Consumer Reports?)

Personal story, I’ve got a late model Allroad that I drive the balls off of. It’s better in most ways than the XC70 T6 is replaced. It’s more reliable for one. Regular shit, that’s it.

If I’m looking for a wagon and want to spend next
To nothing I’m looking at Regal TourX and all that free cash they have em. Low interest loan and your 5k down is like pennies for a fully loaded new wagon that doesn’t seem to suck.

Just looked on Autotrader. Seems like there are a bunch of 2019's for sale and just a couple of 2020's. I guess they killed production on the 2020's. The 2019s are not discounted enough in my opinion. I would need $15k off MSRP to consider.
Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

$5-6k CDN = Mazda (or other Japanese)

Maybe, just maybe, a dieselgate VW.

Love my dieselgate Jetta wagon. She's no sports car but mileage hovers near 40mpg. Comes with a great warranty and can be had very low miles for great prices. Mine had 21k miles I paid $13k out the door.

The reason I said maybe is because I don't know what the pricing, terms, and availability of dieselgate wagons would be in Canada. South of the border it's a no-brainer. Two of my friends did pretty well with Jetta/Golf wagons, and my parents got a crazy amount of cash to keep their Touareg, plus the extended warranty.

If you live in an area that uses salt, forget about the Mazda6 wagon. Rust is a big issue on them.

Otherwise 07-08 are the models are to get. Bonus points for a manual.

Yes this is what I was originaly thinking anyways. I have always been willing to live with and have an unusually fucked up love for the check engine light.

I've had two friends with mazda 3s that were both great cars. One was a "3 Speed", and that thing was quick.

Knowing how much BC loves to salt the living shit out of everything, I'd heed Tortoise's advice, and be very selective wrt rust.

I fixed the rear air struts on the E500 plus new ballast on one HID and a new pulleys and belt set. $1700. Seems reasonable. Runs a lot smoother with the new pulley. 172k miles.

Headlights on nice cars are insanely expensive anymore.

I read that to replace the “Thor’s Hammer” headlight on modern Volvos is a $2K job.

That’s got to be a neat surprise for everyone that buys one out of warranty.

My brother had a 06 or 07 Mazda 6 wagon for the last decade. Great car, reminded me a slightly nicer Legacy wagon with good power from the V6.

The local VW dealer offered to buy back my wife's problematic VW Alltrack so we jumped on it and its gone. It was fun, capable wagon but we were tired of constantly bringing it back to the dealer and getting warranty repairs. I jumped on the crazy discounts Volvo is offering on 2020 V60 XC wagons and picked one up for deep discount. Black on black, picking it up tomorrow.

    Long live the long roof.

So what is a smokin deal? MSRP and deal?

Almost $8k off MSRP on a base model. They’re running an $1k extra discount for teachers (me) and other “front line” workers.

The sales guys said wagons are easy to discount because they sell so many SUVs.
