4 hours, 1 second of trail.
Pic 1 - Rock inconveniently in middle of route. Exposed organic and roots above and below and tried to get it to move. Excavated lots of mineral and moved it downslope to put in a benchcut
Pic 2 - Rock is so big that even though it's now exposed I can move it a bit but it won't swivel. Excess small and medium rock downhill for a benchcut
Pic 3 - Dug a hole so if I ever moved the rock it would someplace to go. Lars and Dave came by as I was ready to give up crying. Taking pity on me we finally moved that sucker. Not perfectly placed but I had enough rock and mineral soil stockpiled to make this 1 second rideable

Nice Lee. Those big rocks are bastards. Don't know how many times I've spent hours excavating a big rock in an inconvenient place, only to give up when I couldn't move it and just fill it all back in.

Thx Rip.! Yah Toast I felt pretty bummed when I saw how big that rick was after excavating.

Worked on another project. This has beautiful mossy hallways in super saturated greens with all the recent NV rains. Used my saw to cut the moss off like a pie. Placed the moss pie to the side. Then used my mattock to clean off organic.

After cleaning the line a bit more used the moss pie placed to the side to keep the singletrack single

Back at it this week finally, putting in some bridges to fix some washouts

I've been doing lots of trimming on local trails lately. Picked up an electric hedge trimmer again. It's holding up much better than the last time I tried one. Might work better two handed rather than one handed though : )

Pic 3 Start adding to the rock pile while Sharon starts wallowing in the slop. The organic and mud on the trail bed first needed to get cleared away.

Almost 10 years of accumulation entails removing almost 40cms of organic

Pic 4 more mudholing

Pic 5 Drained the swamp by carting away the organic and contouring the trail so the ooze slimed away. Got to use some of the rock

Pic 6 Needed to excavate even more organic and mud. Not depicted in picture left I dug a hole to China to excavate almost 60cms of organic slop which drains nicely into the creek.

Excavating so much organic got us finally down to mineral soil

Pic 7 The mineral soil in the drain needed to be further dug away to establish the final drain to out slope the trail. Turns out we had enough "good" soil to not need all that rock.

Should do for another decade

This is a little trail I built years ago. The turns sucked, so I did a little short reroute to straighten the "S". It was too sharp and killed speed for no reason. But apparently someone didn't like my modification and blocked off what I did. This has happened before to trails I've built and then "fixed" and I find it just comical. Who ever did this hasn't built one trail out there, but they seem to think they can reroute stuff.

I've had similar issues - some weird corner that I fix to make the trail flow a little better. Random people undo the fix and resurrect the old route. Eventually, it just becomes a braid with both the new and old options being ridable.

The flipside to that are the assholes who come through and cut shortcuts or straightline turns. Someone probably assumed that's what you are doing. In my area I sometimes leave a note signed "the builder". Usually it gets left alone after that.

Yeah, that's exactly what the thought process was I'm sure, but it's still an "S", just better.

Shar did 5 years as the local trail org volunteer president. Putting in Greenland was her little reward for being 5 years of goody two shoes. That poor trail had gotten asskicked.

It was her baby and my pleasure to help her put in the work to keep it in good shape. An awesome bit of gorgeous forest that links up the network really well popular with trail runners hikers and bikers

You're not wrong there.
Ive built 2 trails with a couple of mates, we're constantly tweaking them. Opening up berms, tightening berms, bigger lip, smaller lip, better drainage. Im kind if addicted to it. Its great when local riders give a pat in the back and say how much they love them

We put in about 3hrs today. Almost done with the complete rough-in. Not happy with a few turns, so needs some modification. Hopefully we'll be done after 3-4 more build sessions.
