Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit, that brand looks painful, much worse than the 3 scratches I have around my nose... I'm surprised I never pulled that move myself.

That scar is gonna be bitchin. Some hipster somewhere has definitely paid a tattoo artist good money to do that to him intentionally.

    Ouch! Nice work!

Minor news for lift service biking:

-Solitude is not opening for any summer services
-DV is opening is friday, limited tix sold.
-PC is only offering season passes to Epic passholders.

The PC limitation is a bummer, especially when I had a late start on a workday and could catch the last ride before 7pm, then start climbing from the top to make it a longer ride.

Hell yeah! I flailed so hard trying to go around it when I rode that trail earlier this year it was embarrassing... Such a cool feature!

Yeah. Would be more fun if it was a nice drop I'd say!

Smith and Morehouse trail is pretty fun. Some smooth sections, some very not smooth sections.

I hiked it to the split with the Erickson basin trail on Sun, wanted to ride it but my neck was still not screwed on right. Looks like it gets steeper after the fork, how much HAB was involved?
The lower 3 miles looked like a lot of fun with a few sections that require some bike pushing and some savage rock gardens.

ahem...um please read title of the thread, this is the Wasatch thread.

Was just out in the Uintas camping the last couple of days with the dog, kayaking and hiking...shoulda brought the bike too, not sure what I was thinking...its pretty out there.

...in regards to the rockgarden I dont think it is any harder but think some of the lines changed from the rains...seems different every time...never bothered to walk it and figure it out...Ride it maybe a handful of times so its usually plinko/choose your own adventure riding....One of the, if not thee most sustained rock gardens in the Satch, she's a gem.

Get outta here with your rules!

I explored both splits just a little ways. They both got pretty HAB'y at the split. I gave up on the left split pretty quick, lots of trees down and it was overgrown. The right split looks like it sees more traffic but I only went up that for a little ways before turning around, the dogs were getting maxed out on distance. Great trail for the dogs though, lots of water and you probably won't be going all that fast in too many places. I've been up in that area before on foot but came in from the mirror lake side, there's good fishing in those lakes up there if anyone is into that.

Interesting. Ms Boissal and her parents have hiked around that area a ton (they have a cabin in the canyon) and laughed at me when I mentioned biking up there. They don't enjoy pushing their bikes along as much as I do though. I think both options past the split get significantly shittier and would make for long sections of HAB but might be work exploring. The right fork to Erickson basin is shorter, rockier, and steeper but if you make it to the basin you can bomb down Shingle creek or make it into a loop past Big Elk and Island Lake then go downthe SmithMoorehouse fork, it would be epic.
I haven't done any hiking along the middle and main fork of the Weber, I imagine it's super chunky. Dry Fork to Sand/Fish lake is similar to Smith Moorehouse but with more assholes on horses...

Current plan for 4th of July weekend is a 5-day road trip to Sun Valley. Looking for reco's for a ride in SLC area on the way up. This will be July 1 (next Weds). Prefer high elevation, backcountry type riding. Hike-a-bike ok but prefer not to do a major bushwack. I am on vacation!

In the past I've done RAT, Southern Skyline loop, Perry/Ben Lomond/N Skyline, Wasatch Crest loop on similar stopovers. I'll have self shuttle capability but a loop is probably the best option time-wise. I figure I'll have 9 hrs or so for a ride, likely getting in mid-day. Will have lights if needed. Would be best to not drive a huge distance from the freeway.

Anything worth riding south of Orem? Fishlake NF? Would trails east of Mt Nebo be open - I think there was a fire there last year somewhere? Open to other suggestions for not to miss rides.

Will likely stop in near Cedar City on the drive home.

I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

Thanks BCSAR and POWMOW Ski Patrol for rescues

Really pleasant up high in PC tonight despite the dust bowl and somewhat painful temps at the trailhead. A few snow patches here and there above Shadow Lake. I had never ridden Scotts Bypass. don't think I've ever seen brake bumps that deep, they could gobble up a person and you'd never see them again. Guess the Crest via Guardsman beater train is running full speed...

Of note, Gretchen the grouse has either returned from the dead as Zombie-chen or has an equally ill-tempered relative who lives at the bottom of Apex. I was looking at my phone trying to find a mellow way down as my ribs were killing me when I spotted the fucker who trotted over 100 yards to pick a fight with me. I lost patience after trying to get my stuff back in the pack while holding the bike and dodging the angry bird and kicked him pretty hard. He rolled into the brush and came right back at me. I have a feeling you could kick that bird over and over and he'd come back until he gets killed. Amazing determination. Probably what happen to the OG Gretchen...
I took off down the dirt road leaving yet another triumphant grouse behind and damn near rear ended a fucking cow. I've just about had it with the PC critters!!

There’s a large moose hanging around the meadow just above The Gnar on honey. He eventually got out of my way but ran down the trail with me for a bit then gave me some dirty looks when I asked to pass.
