Well for all the habits I’ve changed recently, nose picking is one I refuse to put down. So I’d be pounding Purell if I had to be out there for financial or essential reasons.

Regardless of the actual risk of getting covid. Take that out of the question. I'm talking as a human who has decided to start killing as much of the good bacteria as possible on their body over the last 2ish months. I've been doing it too, but starting to wonder if I am being foolish in a way. Destroying so much of my bodies natural defenses over the potential fear of one disease and therefor opening myself up to all sorts of other infections in the process....or in the near future? Are we just gonna wear masks forever and all become frail little hermits?

I know this kind of talk puts me into "crazy asshole" territory, but I think it needs to be discussed. Sorry again if the thread has gone over this already.
Wearing a mask does nothing to kill the bacteria and viruses in your nose.
Washing your hands kills or washes away the bacteria and viruses on your hands but the normal microflora returns rapidly from unwashed parts of the body, so it does nothing to degrade your body's natural defenses. If you were taking whole body showers with antiseptic (this is done before some operations where artificial material is implanted, usually once or twice before surgery) every day there might be some small harm to your immune system for a short period of time. So wearing a mask and washing your hands a lot is doing you no harm. Wearing masks will not turn us into frail little hermits. Staying home and getting not enough exercise might, or more likely will turn us into big fat hermits.
    Consider the matter discussed.

Taking antibiotics--necessary or unnecessary--is another matter. Killing the resident bacteria of the gut can do a lot of harm. Killing the resident bacteria of the nose and mouth can allow colonization by more dangerous, resistant bacteria which can cause difficult to treat, dangerous pneumonia.

Covid or no covid--wash your hands, wear a mask if you have a cold or other respiratory infection, and don't take antibiotics unless you have an actual bacterial infection.

False equivalency. Unfortunately, we are never taught in school how to evaluate the validity of information and the reliability of sources. We are presented scientific knowledge of dogma, just like religion. Anyone here that doesn't know the earth is 93 million miles from the sun, more or less? Anyone here who knows how that was figured out and when? (I did once but I forgot in 5 minutes, and that was from watching TV 10 years ago, not in school.) When we are never taught these things, when they are handed down as gospel--because I told you so--then all information seems the same to us. One of the most valuable things I did in school was breed fruit flies. When you see Mendel's rules working at your own lab station, science starts to mean more than a bunch of facts you take on faith.

There may be no such thing as fixed, objective truth, but there are ideas that are vastly closer to it and ideas that are vastly farther away.
You can legitimately argue about whether we should continue to stay home or open up; we cannot legitimately argue about whether or not the guvment is making up Covid 19 deaths to enslave us and whether or not all those people in masks and gowns on TV are crisis actors.

Either one accepts the scientific process or being stuck in the dogmas of belief. That's the social divide.

The new brainiacs of faith declare that they are researchers, thereby their information is valid.

It's an unfair stereotype I know. When I think of the Catholic Church and Catholic schools I think of the brothers at the local Jesuit High School who recruited kids to sit in at the School of the Americas, or the Berrigan brothers (since we're talking about Vietnam protests), or Archibishop Oscar Romero (now Saint Oscar Romero) of El Salvador.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH...etc.

God, I hope that this is real! Apparently someone, or some group, is doing a laser light show on the Chicom consulate in Los Angeles, Mexico. Likely not real, but still funny as fuck.

Shortly after 9/11, when the chattering classes talked incessantly of the clash of cultures, Hitchens said the coming culture war wouldn’t be between Christianity and Islam, but between Secularism and Religiosity. Facts
Vs Beliefs. I thought at the time it was pretty insightful, but didn’t envision it playing out in a pandemic.

    Hah.
I just noticed your location is the cone of uncertainty.

That Jackass decided to only sell ice cream with a one hour preorder. That’s not how ice cream works.

Most shops let you park, phone your order and wait for it to be delivered. That works just fine, even in a lockdown.

im still trying to figure out how a small company of 100 who never needed masks before has more masks than we can possibly use
is it a special supply train thing?
or are we buying from the same people anyone can?
are we preventing others from gitting these supplies?
or do health care systems not have the same level of supply access as small companies
    WHY or how is this?

It's the usage rate in those settings that is causing the shortages, dimwit.
