Wow, I just read that Bergamo, Italy lost 800 people in a single day. Good Lord.

JFC this makes me so angry. This is political cowardice that will result in people dying to get that orange piece of shit re-elected.

Had dinner in the backyard with friends last night--about 12 feet apart, they brought their own plates and silverware and cups. She's a pediatrician, cut back to half time. She wears a paper mask--not N95 all day at work. The same mask. For a week. And the clinic is almost out and can't get more. A country that cannot manufacture an adequate number of simple paper medical masks cannot call itself the greatest country on earth, or in the Western Hemisphere, or in North America, or even the greatest country in the USA.

We have great scientists who can tell us what we need to do, but there is no one at the federal level who seems capable of organizing the logistics and infrastructure of a response. I hope that people will start to realize that as much as we dislike politicians--running a city, or a state, or a country is a job, like any other job, and requires a certain amount of training and experience, like any job. It is no more a job for amateurs than is running a nuclear reactor. Imagine interviewing for a job and when you're asked what experience you have in that line of work, you answer "None, that's what will make me so good at it." The next time some candidate boasts about how little experience in politics they have our response should be the same as the boss doing that interview.
at a certain point no need to stop blaming all of anmerica for everyones personal shortcomings

how can an state have a mask for everyone who wants one
yet the people who run her clinic cant do the same
    how is this possible
    did Utah take their masks?
or did they suck at providing needed gear?

Umatilla county OR has been posting new cases everyday for the last week. The responses on the county health page say things like "well of course we have more cases because they are testing." WTF is that suppose to mean? That if we don't test we don't have cases? We should stop testing so the virus goes away? Really really struggling......

That's exactly what that's supposed to mean. Stupid as fuck and I have no hope for parts of this country. I'll keep doing the same things I've been doing for almost two months, which is the grocery store and going bouldering with no one else around.

Hard to blame the hospital--I'm sure they were doing their best to get their hands on proper PPE. There's plenty of blame to go around though, just round up the usual suspects. Starting with this clown

Actually we have a lot of excellent t peope in the federal government perfectly capable of organizing the response and infrastructure necessary to deal with this. Fauci and Brix and good examples. The federal bureaucracy has evolved to do exactly this, yet conservative have been trying to dismantle it since at least Reagan "Government is not the solution to our problem, government is the problem." I am sorry, but only a federally coordinated response is adequate to address such a pandemic. It will involve local, state, federal and international response and coordination. There was a time when the USwould lead such a response, but our federal leadership is inadequate to the task, even though we have the resources and talent necessary. We have a world class orchestra, but lack a conductor.

I assume you mean ER vs OR, but I get your point, one that the deplorables completely miss. It's not like you need a positive test result to get sick, end up in the ER or on a vent and die, people are perfectly capable of doing all that without a diagnosis. Granted the actual number of cases diagnosed will go up with increased testing, but testing is going to have little effect on hospitalization, death, etc. Ya got it or ya don't.

This is what drives me crazy about these people, they just don't stop to think. They are spoon fed what to believe and they don't question it (not unlike religion where people are taught what to believe at such an early age it never dawns on them to question it.)

A bit of time on a prison road crew would do hom good.

Well, Since I don't think Cool Hand Luke crews exist these days, a few days on a prison fire crew would be the next best thing. Those guys and gals are fuckin' animals. During my time I fire crews we thought we were tough, but they would run circles around us, all for 35 cents an hour or some such ridiculous wage. Jared would be crying ike a baby within 20 minutes on a fire ine.

No... OR as in Oregon. Umatilla county Oregon posting their daily count of positive cases. I'm in Washington right on the Oregon border so what happens in both states effects me.

Seems you read a lot of online comments KQ that really stress you out. Why?, I don’t understand and probably never will. Reading what some random shitbag thinks about an article isn’t even on my radar of things to care about.

Stop reading comments and just stick to TGR comments, at least you get some smart ass chuckles from time to time and maybe some man leg pics.

    https://projects.oregonlive.com/coro...s/cases-by-zip

This thread moves way too fast. Have we gone over the concept that everyone constantly wearing a mask and sanitizing their hands a million times a day is doing more harm than good? Regardless of the actual risk of getting covid. Take that out of the question. I'm talking as a human who has decided to start killing as much of the good bacteria as possible on their body over the last 2ish months. I've been doing it too, but starting to wonder if I am being foolish in a way. Destroying so much of my bodies natural defenses over the potential fear of one disease and therefor opening myself up to all sorts of other infections in the process....or in the near future? Are we just gonna wear masks forever and all become frail little hermits?

I know this kind of talk puts me into "crazy asshole" territory, but I think it needs to be discussed. Sorry again if the thread has gone over this already.

Constantly sanitizing? Really? Only upon encountering foreign surfaces which is fortunately entirely within my control and happens once a week, max. Took a desert trip for the last four days and touched nothing but my wife, my dogs and the dirt. Pretty sure my biome is sufficiently nasty enough to maintain my excellent health.

    Not a concern WG.

"constantly" is a bit much. Maybe several times a day? Unfortunately I can't just stay at home right now. I gotta go out in the world....you know for like that pesky work thing.
