Would people opt in to the contact tracing app if it were a condition of entry to place like Walmart, Safeway, or an office building?

@xxx, definitely look on FB and/or etsy for masks. Lots of small business here like cleaners/clothes alterations, dressmakers, the tee shirt screener, etc., have started making masks. Even the woman who cuts hair out of an old school bus near me has reinvented herself as a mask maker.

It really seems like the easiest way to slow the speed is for businesses to step up. Too much of the population will refuse to listen to government orders. Businesses need to simply say that if a person wants to come inside their business they need to wear a mask. Period. Its really not a constraint to have to dawn some sort of covering for your mouth and nose. It seems to be the only logical way to slow the spread without as many negative effects on the economy (which is already fucked). Of course it doesn’t help when the leaders of the GOP refuse to wear a mask. Hell Trump might look better with his mouth covered. Cover your face and encourage everyone you know to do the same.

But the simple analogies are too simple, imo... which is one reason why many are struggling to get or keep their shit together.

The message is that if we wanted to have feed store and Walmart shoppers wear masks they have to be in a design that the buyer gets a positive by feeling by feeling negative or to relate with whatever message they get from the design. If Kid Rock would wear one peer pressure would kick in to boost sales. My career of helping ladies clothing stores to merchandise, i.e. pick and buy stuff that will sell might make me biased. Kid Rock would be a game changer but not gonna happen. Tman and Pence already sent the message to the troops.

In the full size picture in the print edition, which I couldn't copy, there is a line of about 10 CHPs lined up right behind the scene in the shot I posted, all without masks. Behind them is one CHP with a mask, well back from the rest and by himself. No doubt he will be given unlimited shit back at the station. Friend of ours is a CHP bomb disposal guy, based out of the capital. I imagine he was involved in that melee. With all the unmasked people, more dangerous than dealing with bombs.

Okay....just went into a feed store in OR. There were at least a dozen customers and 4 staff inside this small store and I was the only one with a mask. No social distancing whatsoever.

People were looking at me like I was a freak.

Give Central and South America and Africa a little time to catch up, although there will be a lot of people dying of the virus who will never be counted.
The problem with the calculation of any statistics for Covid 19 is that it is a disaster in progress. Deaths lag cases, different parts of the world are at different stages, testing varies by location, accuracy of data varies by location. It's like trying to figure how much damage a tidal wave will do while the water is still rising.

Yep. They actually could have been sort of heroes had they done anything responsible like worn masks or not made this a politically polarized issue or tweeted / encouraged civil disobedience.

"Why weren't we warned about this?" - Rural America sometime in the near future when the virus works its way everywhere and starts sickening and killing community members.

Very nice guy, not your bullying LE type.
And no armed people inside the state capitol, that was Michigan. Sorry.

I've tried this twice in similar situations. Start coughing and for additional effect you could , say "I'm sure it's just a cold so I wore the mask to keep you safe just in case. "

Yup hero's, if anybody down there was on the fence about Trump being a fucking idiot there is no doubt anymore so think about how much different the election might have look in the fall assuming there is one, all Trump had to do is introduce Fauci every day, shut the fuck up let the pro's do what they do, tell the mouth breathers to get in line and they would have instead Trump has mishandled this whole thing & looks like an asshole

Up here we have had some real boarder line unpopular politicians step up to be leaders which has boosted their popularity, Trudeau was on most people shit list does a state of Covid speech every morning just him cool calm collected , the Premier of Ontario Doug Ford was on everybodies shit list and he has stepped it up to be a real leader, you really needc somebody up there on the lecturn leading

apparently BC where i live is 3 weeks ahead of the rest of Canada has plateaued and is on the downhill side, our premier has kept his mouth shut and let Bonnie Henry the top doctor do the talking every morning a cool clam collected pro

My allergies are on fire today so I'm all congested and have a small dry cough. I should have hammed it up but instead I suppressed it. Felt like the hippies in that song by David Allen Coe.

Yes - FOMO is something and that was a very good ski analogy.

Yes - I think of all the deaths in Europe and the east coast and what gets me the most are the descriptions of feeling like you're drowning. Ugh... ugh.. ugh... sends shivers down my spine.

Yeah, maybe it won't kill me but I sure as hell don't want to get that sick for that long. And here's another thing - what of the cost? Some of these people who recover come out of the hospital after 11 weeks. 11 weeks! My 1.5 days in the hospital for diverticulitis last year was 40K. I just can't imagine what 11 weeks of intensive care costs. Even with insurance people are going to be bankrupt. Why isn't the news covering this? Maybe it would make some of the people who refuse to SAH or wear masks think twice.

And speaking of masks - I read an article that Mike DeWine governor of Ohio was the smartest politician in the country because he backed down from making masks mandatory in public when people pushed back. Really? Who's the adult here? What is so inconvenient about wearing a mask when you are around others? It's not 24/7 when your at home, in bed, in the car etc. etc. Just put it on. DKNY, Tommy Hilfiger and TNF need to get on making designer masks that people can coordinate with their outfits. Why I bet if Kim Kardashian started making them they would take off like wildfire.
The horror of a death from this over pretty much anything else is dying totally alone. Once you're in the ambulance, human contact is super minimal, and even burial may be part of a group deal, out of safety. Ech.
