That's really more what I was driving at. Why on earth do you continue to associate with people like that, unless you actually harbor similar views, or you enjoy baiting and subsequently judging them. I can't think of any reasonable reason to want people like that in your life.

You validate people with fucked up views like that by even giving them the opportunity to bend your ear.

Another excellent article from Derek Lowe on COVID vaccines with lots of background info on vaccines in general here

And his latest on the status of current trials with antivirals & the chloroquines. The latest high quality data (ie randomized placebo controlled, not anecdotal evidence) is bad, no efficacy seen with any small molecule treatment regardless of the nature of the endpoints. There were some cardiac events though so treatment has the potential for being worse than standard of care...

I've mentioned his blog before, it's the best thing you can read if you want info on the current COVID drug development pipeline & clinical trials results. He's been entirely apolitical on this, doesn't push any agenda despite being a long-term big pharma guy, and simply provide a scientific view of the happenings in the field with no bias (despite what the shrill fuckheads who have invaded the comments are trying to say). It's nice to have a dose of rationality on this topic.

Views aside these are good farm folk. In hard times they will come to your aid without being asked in the blink of an eye and ask nothing in return. None of us is 100% what others like. A wise person learns to separate the wheat from the chaff but that doesn't mean you aren't left shaking your head from time to time.

This gal who is a quilter kindly made face masks for me and my mother and asked nothing. She overlooks my cannabis loving liberal atheist bent and I forgive her revisionist conservative born again view of things and together we get by with a little help from our friends.

Honestly.

She also railed against all the people going on welfare i.e. unemployment.

    Sigh..................
Yes, that was Edwards with the haircut. Obama was the guy who put his feet up on the Oval Office desk.

That's a nice version of "You've got a friend," although I'm partial to James Taylor singing it.

There's still no valid reason to be visiting a friend, even if you practice social distancing: https://www.kuow.org/stories/plans-f...sit-one-friend

If you aren't proactively being a part of the solution, you are a part of the problem.

This has always been more my style though.

this. in the small NE Cali town I know well, politics wasn't a conversation topic that came up unless you were real sure everyone in the group was on the same page. I didn't know til years later that some of my friends and neighbords were Trumpy kooks but.... didn't really affect the fun we had or the charitable spirit that I observed in them.

Uh, directly from the article cited in that story you linked:
"To be clear, when we talk about “meeting up” here, we mean doing so in a way that doesn’t carefully follow all the rules about social distancing. That is, you interact directly or at a distance of less than 6 feet, and/or you share various items between you without rigorous handwashing and disinfecting."

Seems KQ said she was doing that.

I never thought I would get the opportunity to say this, but now that it has presented itself, I'm going to seize it: I agree with you on that.

Having lived in both places (neither of which was as bad as a hood in CA) I'm sure you'll live to move again. But the land of single pane split levels with T-111 siding and "continental" bathrooms (where you can--momentarily--escape both the popcorn ceilings and the Mt Si grads) will stay with you even during the most audacious of wax ring inspections.

Thank goodness these people I call friends are only conservative and not selfish/short sighted.

Anyhoo... guess I should have added:

"I stopped by to check on her and pick up the masks she so generously made for me and my mother with her time/fabric/money when I was on my way to bring groceries to my mother in lockdown at her retirement community. While there, since I'd not seen her in well over 6 months I stood outside 6+ feet from her wearing a mask and took the time to inquire about her health and that of her family. The only contact we had was passing the bag containing the masks she made which I wiped down with a Clorox wipe and then sanitized my hands."

Maybe that'd be even PARTIALLY accurate if it was like:

"Hey, Genghis Kahn's outside the gates. He said he mostly just wants our oldest and fattest citizens though."
"Oh, is that right? Well, go get your damn turnips then. Whatevs. I'll hang out in here."
    "K bye."

it would be more appropriate to say "phil, we've been through this before, if we let the mongols in they will exponentially grow in numbers uncontrollably killing many many more..."

You seem to be of the viewpoint "so what, kill as many as it takes, as long as I can get back to work"
Damn shame, throwing away a perfectly good white boy like that

    OK Phil...

Thing is, that's fake news from Genghis. Phil the healthy middle age guy goes out to tend to his turnips and GK chops off his head, laughs, then murders a dozen of his co-workers. And rapes a few for good measure.
