Love the comments. I love working from home and I am ruined, as I will never accept any other situation, when I can do everything from my home office. And you guys with kids, make some memories now, as they grow up so fast. The kid years are tough, but when raised correctly and you get lucky not having an idiot for a child, adult children are the best. I love hanging out and laughing with the girls. I honestly wish I had a big home, so we could all live together and have our own space until they get married.

Less real estate overhead, less liability insurance, less infrastructure cost, and on and on. We have the fast internet nearly ubiquitous, the time for mostly remote has come. Some industries can't have it, but lots can.

So much this. There's little need for me to be onsite for 95% of my job. I drive 64 miles round trip to sit in my office. I'm doing perfectly fine right from here. Boss wants me to drive up tomorrow and get my mail. Which will probably consist of 3 trade publications and an invoice I already received via email and paid.

They seem to be really concerned that people are "being productive". Shit, I know people in their own building that fuck the dog every fucking day right under their noses.

IT manager for a municipal utility (water/wastewater). I do SCADA/CMMS/GIS, not the business network.

I called in sick the last three days of last week. I have a 78 yo dad with emphysema who just had back surgery. No fucking way I was going to be compromised by working at a shit plant being his sole support. I still worked some on those days from home. The city finally made the call late Friday for WFH. First time I've done it and I think it's great. Instead of all the drop in bullshitters killing my time, I get little chores done and still feel productive. We're using Microsoft Teams for meetings and that's working pretty well.

I have a 21 yo college student watching an online class in bed as I type this. It's a strange new world.

GiBo I have no idea whether this helps but I work with a company that does cloud-based water quality, FOGs etc. If there's any way any of their tools can help you get your job done a bit easier so you've got more time let me know and i can at least pass on contacts.

My dad was to go into assisted living. One of the care homes we were going to look at in North Van is the majority of fatalities right now in Canada. To say it's a bit stressful is an understatement.

Hahaha. Seriously. People w/o kids have NO clue how much crazier things are for us. Normally, weeks are chock full of outings, pre-K, play dates, etc. Now that they're forced to stay home without seeing other kids they're going freaking bonkers, which is driving me nuts. Turns out CPA services are exempt in California. Our office is cranking away tax returns still. Luckily, I'm working from home. I'm pretty sure those working in the office are going to come down with it. I'm even creeping in and out of the office with a freaking cold and they don't care. They fully trust my diagnosis is 100% correct.

Gym employee here. I've got limited hours for this week (cleaning and my regular maintenance hours) next week that'll end and I'm not sure when we'll reopen. I've got savings so I should be ok but between my partner and I we haven't gotten to see our kids (they're at the other parents house) and we're weathering that ok but it's been hard.

Census Gov has called a pause in new employee training. No fingerprinting even. Was gonna get a CC at the same time. I'm hoping to make some $$ when they start online training then get a phone job or quit.

I got offered a job. They wanted me to go over into Santa Clara County to get fingerprinted. Said, hell no. Turned down the offer to go into an epicenter.

Will keep plowing along in my PT gig right now.

Work for a state govt regulating an essential industry.

In the last two weeks we've gone from regulators, to most everyone in the private space closing down to the point we've got to produce supply for emergency workers.

WFH is a helluva an adjustment. My fiance is a a college instructor going full remote. I'm on 8-10hrs of teleconference a day. And we live in 900 sq ft house.

Job site is still running. It's a small house so I'm limiting subs access so that they're the only ones there. Laid off my one part time employee, doing the rest of the cabinetry and carpentry myself. Seems pretty reasonable.

It's pretty quiet and chill every where i go right now, and people are really nice. Maybe there's something we can takeaway from this.

God I hope my company gets the clue on this one. I am stuck in front of a computer, calling contractors, sending submittals, doing take offs, shipping jobs, etc., and I am busy as hell. Management is having daily Teams meetings to get updates. Today, when it was my turn to give my update, I told them ,"I have received 20 emails so far during this 15 minute meeting". I don't think it registered with them what I was saying. I still had to give the update. I think they are most worried, because they are the most non-essential people right now. The meetings are the only thing justifying their jobs.

Currently at the (weird) crossroads between journalism, art, culture industry, technology and universities, doing research.
Just secured funding for 1+ years so personally in an extraordinary blessed position.

The big picture looks like meteor strike in super slo-mo: Most parts of the culture industry are getting utterly decimated.
- Musicians preparing for summer tours having to cancel everything and left with a 6-7 number debts, taking down promoters & production companies right and left.
- Field of visual arts is done for, with galleries, exhibitors and collectors eating shit and artists themselves being paupers to begin with.
- Film industry is shut down for the next 2-4 months taking down equipment rentals, production & postproduction studios and all the crucial infra.
- Of the local restaurants (in the capital), a rough estimation is that 40-50% will go under before August.
- The Young And Urban crowd that I know, about 75% are self employed or have companies. I wont even start to guess how many will be done for.

Absolutely heart breaking to see the tragedy unfold, knowing that there is very little left for the individuals to do, being trapped in the currents of the events.

Management is having daily Teams meetings to get updates. Today, when it was my turn to give my update, I told them ,"I have received 20 emails so far during this 15 minute meeting". I don't think it registered with them what I was saying. I still had to give the update. I think they are most worried, because they are the most non-essential people right now. So fucking much this! I have received over 40 meeting requests form the corporate office monkeys in the last 3 days who are just trying to justify their online existence. Meanwhile I am tying to keep 20 some bridge projects up and running. Fuck off has pretty much been my general response.
