WWII Fighter Ace, 1st person to break the sound barrier, 1st to fly faster than Mach 2, his list of aviation accomplishments is astounding. 97 years old. A true American hero.
Rest in piece, Major General.

From the outside looking in. He gave it a hell of a run.
A very full life well lived

Yep, that dude sent it... RIP
I know his daughter, she lives in Big Sky and is a great skier. She is illegitimate and says he is a complete asshole who never contributed a dime to her upbringing and refused all contact from her as an adult.

The Sheriff is near!
I must have watched "The Right Stuff" 20 times when I was a kid. RIP
As a kid, it was and still is a book that stands out in my mind. It absolutely captured me.
He was clearly batshit crazy! Calculated and crazy! So I'm not really shocked by what Harry typed.
Somehow this doesn’t surprise me. I wouldn’t be surprised if there were several more like her. Just a reminder that heroes aren’t always perfect.
Doesn’t take away from his heroics as a pilot. In addition to his well known speed records as a test pilot, he was an WWII ace with 13 kills. He was also shot down over German occupied France and managed to escape with help from the resistance.
RIP
I have been in this State for 30 years and I am willing to admit that I am part of the problem.
"Happiest years of my life were earning < $8.00 and hour, collecting unemployment every spring and fall, no car, no debt and no responsibilities. 1984-1990 Park City UT"
I heard that too. Not always entirely the fathers fault btw.
First book a I read. Gave my son it, I think he props up his Xbox with it.

Anyone have proof about an illegitimate daughter? If not, STFU. Or better yet delete the post.
She is a personal friend who (pre-Covid) I spoke to face-to-face almost daily for a 10+ year period. Maybe she is lying, maybe she isn’t.

Whatever.
I don’t demand people have a DNA test to be my friends.

He lived in western NV County near Beale AFB and was known to be very unfriendly (aka a jerk) with a family/personal life braided in drama and legal actions, in addition to being a great and ballsy pilot.
FWIW, Beale AFB is known to have many great pilots living nearby as it’s a U-2 base and used to be an sr71 base.
What I know about Yeager--back when he was doing flight testing the occupation was somewhat more dangerous than free solo rock climbing or being one the Walendas.
The passage introducing him in “The Right Stuff” is brilliant writing.
Well maybe I'm the faggot America
I'm not a part of a redneck agenda
I never met the man, but idolized him in my youth.
My FIL, who is a awesome human and a hell of an aviator, didn’t really like him.
Still he had “the right stuff”, even if he was a Dick.
I named my son after the “White Knight “.

Probably a better human, even if he was on the wrong side at the time.
