Nothing like NYC though, not arguing with you that we need more testing but it also makes complete sense that this will spread much faster in NYC. So, probably a bit of both.

RE: Huck's post:Failing the two-part confirmation, presence of antibodies plus time (i.e 2 weeks since postitive antibody test) should be reliable enough to work from I would imagine. Or maybe "hope" is the right word.

Cuomo is crushing it once again. He's far too much of a New Yorker to ever be electable nationally, but he's managing this well.

You're better able to evaluate the data than I am but from what I understand you're looking for sensitivity and specificity. This study says if the test is performed with a correct set of primers and not in an environment where there are many carriers then it is probably reliable:

    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6988269/

Outside of formal papers, there's also plenty of statements from doctors/researchers describing the efficacy of current tests. It's also worth mentioning that if there are more false positives due to an environment where there are many carriers then that's useful information too. More people than necessary may end up quarantined for 14 days but we're already starting to do that now for the entire population because we're flying blind.

And hoo boy is it disappointing.

Under the plan, the government would provide households an early tax rebate worth up to $1,200 for an individual or $2,400 for a married couple, with an extra $500 for each of their children. (So far, so good). The payments will be based on a household’s 2018 tax return, or if it didn’t submit one, their 2019 filing.

But the checks will shrink for both low and high earners. Americans with little to no tax liability (aka, poor folks) will only receive a minimum payment of $600, unless they earned less than $2,500, in which case they get zilch. Low-wage workers who don’t have a federal tax return for 2018 or 2019—adults generally aren’t required to file one they if earn less than the standard deduction—also won’t qualify for the early rebate. (They could still get it next year if they file taxes for 2020, but by that time it will be a bit late.) Meanwhile, the payments phase down for workers who make more than $75,000 and drop to zero for those making $99,000 and above (double those numbers for joint filers).
Ah, the GOP. Fucking the poor and the needy again and again and again.

No issues with the top end. But fuck the poor. Let them starve and die.

He seems to be one of the few people in a leadership position who is putting equal emphasis on the severity of the disease/need to contain it and the importance of not working ourselves into a frenzy of panic.

There's a movement afoot to postpone them till next year that makes lots of sense. There's zero reason to have them this July. Athletes won't be ready and there's no reason to have thousands of people traveling to Japan even if things look much better then.

And not getting baited into fights with the WH over stupid shit, like Wolf Blitzer asking him three times about the "Chinese" flue label, and being very reasonable and polite about it. We have more important things to worry about.

He's doing a surprisingly.good job. I can't believe I'm saying it but I'm proud of how he's handling things. We processed 10k tests in less than 24 hours and more capacity is coming online every day. Fkn amazing.

I was listening to someone yesterday, dooming and glooming, talking about the truck loads of dead elderly people in Europe. The mass carnage and bodies piled up outside morgues in the streets.

We all have video cameras on our phones. If a truck has traction problems delivering clean linens to the four seasons, five people are there filming it. Where is the video. Just curious that’s all.

Anyone know why the Johns Hopkins map changed from showing 1 recovered in WA to 0? Hoping something other than re-infection.

bergamos morgue has been overwhelmed and the army is trucking body’s to other towns for cremation - there’s video. There’s also video of an overwhelmed hospital, if you want that. Accounts from Drs nurses too.
