KQ, and all ya TGR world, hang in there. These are hard and stressful times. Isolation is a good call. I’m trying to balance helping my neighbor while staying away from them.

One of my neighbors is in her 80s, had a medical scare a few years back, but insists on going about her business as usual. We have offered (as well as two others on the court) to shop for her. But she says she needs to get out, or she may never get out again. Tough times for sure. Lovely lady. Just hope she does not get sick.

I don’t know anything (yet) about OAN, but part of what she was referring to is that China is now “demanding we admit we started it”

China's foreign ministry accuses US military of bringing virus to Wuhan
China demands US take responsibility and disclose information about first domestic patient

Effectively a question that said "how do you feel about leftist media combining and working with Islamists, left-win central american radicals, and (some other group) to discredit you and call you racist?". This line of questioning started with "do you consider the term Chinese food to be racist? If not, why would the term Chinese flu be racist?"

Absolute humidity stays the same as temp increases but relative humidity goes down (until more water evaporates into the air). I would think relative matters more given the points made in this thread, since proximity to dew point influences evaporation of large particles, but I'm curious if Multiverse feels differently.
I don't have a good non speculative (like low-VP increases the number of overall droplets) explanation other than to agree with Jono's response to splat and add actual water vapor content of air irrespective of temperature often has greater biological significance for many organisms.

The original statement is based on the fact that correlation with 1hr virus viability and relative humidity is strong but the correlation with vapor pressure is strongest:

A word of caution, these findings aren't particularly robust but they do align with what we know about other droplet transmitted viruses.

“Shelter in place” is a little confusing to me and others. Some seem to think it means stay at home, take walks with distance from those that you don’t live with, go to grocery if needed, but generally hang around your home and neighborhood. For others, it means make sure you give physical distance to others, wash hands, etc., but go ahead and drive to a beach or the mountains or your favorite walking area that could be several hours away from your home.

    Thoughts and feelings?

Shelter in place is not the same as social distancing.

I'm in the dull mood phase of this and its early. Not sure what to do, getting shit done around house but rather blow it off like I usually do until last min. Don't feel like skiing anymore, a tour seems exhausting and risky (for me or others, hell, I don't know). Wife is out of work, she is stir crazy. I usually work out of the house but travel alot, not now. All home time now.

This morning I have been thinking how much life has slowed, I'm thinking of the positive in this, focus on getting shit done around the house, etc... I have time to focus on me, my family. Even you bastards.

Anyway, hang in TGR, stay safe. Beers and brats in the lot again some day.

Anyone wondering if the cops are going to be “distancing” themselves, and sit back at the station with the coffee machine?

I wonder what their policy is?

Xi has not played his hand for economic stimulus. Local analysts have said he is waiting for the US response. Trump wanted economic war. He got it. Yuen is falling further damaging the US. Just hope they don’t step on the treasury market.

“President Xi Jinping and China’s governing State Council, or cabinet, on Wednesday underlined the core problem in a spray of get-back-to-work directives.

The State Council said that while the province of Hubei, where the coronavirus first emerged, still needs to focus on controlling the epidemic, other parts of the country should “promote the resumption of production and production in an orderly manner.”

American adults of all ages — not just those in their 70s, 80s and 90s — are being seriously sickened by the coronavirus, according to a report on nearly 2,500 cases in the United States.

The report, issued Wednesday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, found that — as in other countries — the oldest patients were at greatest risk of becoming seriously ill or dying. But of the 508 coronavirus patients known to have been hospitalized in the United States, 38 percent were between 20 and 54. And nearly half of the 121 sickest patients studied — those admitted to intensive care units — were adults under 65.

“I think everyone should be paying attention to this,” said Stephen S. Morse, a professor of epidemiology at Columbia University. “It’s not just going to be the elderly.”
Seems like a lot of conflicting data about who is being affected.

I have a hard time understanding the stay inside and don't even go for a walk in your neighborhood line of thinking. I understand don't do risky things but not lock yourself into a padded room

Some more official stats..Numbers are broadly consistent with Imperial College study

    https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/69/...cid=mm6912e2_w

    Summary

    - Cases age breakdown (51% 55+ years old; 18% 45 - 54 years old; 29% 20 - 44 years old; 5% less than 19 years old). Numbers don't round per the source data

    - 12% of cases require hospitalization (48% 55+ years old; 18% 45 - 54 years old; 29% 20 - 44 years old; less than 1% less than 19 years old)

    - 23% of hospitalization cases require intensive care (53% 65+ years old; 35% 45 - 64 years old; 12% 20 - 44 years old; nil% less than 19 years old)

    - 10% of all cases are fatalities (80% 65+ years old; 20% less than 45 years old. Data lacking in study for further breakdown

Shelter in Place. Based on Santa Cruz County guidance.

Exit the home only for essentials. Travel only for essentials.

Outdoor recreation/ exercise for physical and mental health is considered essential.

You should be able to outdoor recreate near your home. In your county.

This allows me to hike, walk, bike and surf. I should not get in the car and drive 200 miles so I can ski tour. But the mandate does not specifically state this, nor specifically state I can not leave the county.

One should practice social distancing of 6 feet with any person not a member of your household when exiting the home. This was a challenge at the Farmers Market yesterday. Most people we very conservative. The fucking mouth breathers have no clue what 6’ looks like even though they had signs all over the place and the ground was marketed all over to show what 6’ looks like.

Does anyone know if the virus can survive in salt water? Went by a local beginner surf spot and for sure folks were not 6’ apart.
