How many labs are out there that can handle BSL level 3 test processing with real time PCR units or can the pathogen safely be handled at BSL-2?
A couple hundred pages ago in this thread I wanted to start a rumor that vaping lung disease was actually Sars-CoV2 laced in black market Chinese vape carts.

    https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019...oratories.html

    https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019...fety-faqs.html

Much of this is directly disrtibuted to Clinical labs thru the CDC. BSL2 is what is required, what we have at work for handling samples.

FYI- the rates of False Positives being tossed around in this thread are nonsense without the understanding the there is NOT a universal rt-PCR assay, but at least 10 different assays, all with their own primer sets, that have been developed. Early versions of the Chinese assay and the CDC assay both suffered from FP, which were corrected in later versions. The test developed early on in Germany and adopted by the WHO has a very low FP rate, as do the 4 different assays developed in Korea and used on nearly 300,000 people in the country thus far.

    3. Molecular assays to diagnose 2019-nCoV

Several assays that detect the 2019-nCoV have been and are currently under development, both in-house and commercially. Some assays may detect only the novel virus and some may also detect other strains (e.g. SARS-CoV) that are genetically similar.
    In-house developed molecular assays
Some groups shared their protocols which can be accessed below (Summary table and link to the protocols). In some cases, the groups will be willing to send reagents or reagent mixes prepared in their laboratories, with or without associated fees. It is strongly recommended to contact the developer if you need further assistance. The list is not exhaustive and is being updated regularly.
    Summary table of available protocols
    Country Institute Gene targets
China China CDC ORF1ab and N
    Germany Charité RdRP, E, N
Hong Kong SAR HKU ORF1b-nsp14, N
Japan National Institute of Infectious Diseases, Department of Virology III Pancorona and multiple targets, Spike protein
Thailand National Institute of Health N
US US CDC Three targets in N gene
France Institut Pasteur, Paris Two targets in RdRP

Absolute humidity is total water in the air, as opposed to relative humidity which is the percentage of the maximum water that air could hold at its temperature.

Absolute humidity stays the same as temp increases but relative humidity goes down (until more water evaporates into the air). I would think relative matters more given the points made in this thread, since proximity to dew point influences evaporation of large particles, but I'm curious if Multiverse feels differently.

China should be seen as cautionary tale. The fact that we have South Korea as a counterexample should be seen as proof we don't need to devolve into an authoritarian dystopian nightmare to stop this thing.

South Korea is perplexing. But don't run to them just yet as there as been an alarming uptick in new cases today.

Did anyone just hear that question from OAN? Had to Google who they even are - I can't believe how far we've fallen as a country that they're being allowed into the Whitehouse.

Effectively a question that said "how do you feel about leftist media combining and working with Islamists, left-win central american radicals, and (some other group) to discredit you and call you racist?". This line of questioning started with "do you consider the term Chinese food to be racist? If not, why would the term Chinese flu be racist?"

    What the fuck is happening

Just because he got lucky predicting Trump winning the election doesn't make him right. Just lucky. And he's not funny.

My last therapist was all over me with my dislocated should. She was beautiful, so I did not mind. When she moved my arm/hand so it swiped across her breast, she apologized. I was like, no worries.

We are Shelter in Place in my county, so we are actually taking this thing a bit more seriously here than in most parts of the country. We will likely reduce transmissions much more quickly than the rest of the US, and with increased testing may be able to quarantine the sick and contain it. Then we will need to shut our borders to the rest of y’all who continue to go on with life pretty much as normal.

That said, my PT office is limiting sessions to those who really need to see therapist right now: surgery recovery, chronic pain and a few others.

I requested PT for my right shoulder which was strained in January. I had been working on my left shoulder which was dislocated in November. I’ve been asked to stay at home, and work on exercises shared with me online. My condition is not critical.

They are trying to minimize the number of people there at one time and the overall number contacts.

I had already made the decision to not go in for my right shoulder right now. I continue to work on both shoulders at home. Luckily, I was just just discharged for my left shoulder and completed my sessions. I had an option to go in for a three free group sessions, which I planned to, but once this all came down three weeks ago, opted to not go it.

I don’t know your situation. I take PT very seriously. I really want to go surfing, but don’t yet know if my shoulder is strong enough and do not want it popping back out and heading to urgent care. But being in PT right now does not seem wise to me either. I can do almost everything I need to right now and prefer to stay away from vectors.

You're more optimistic than I am. I think we just keep circling the drain as more and more of these batshit "journalists" become legitimized by being invited into the WH to operate as propaganda arms of the Executive. There is substantial overlap between the people that thought Obama was going to throw them into FEMA camps and take their guns and the folks cheering this on.

You're doing the right thing, KQ. At this point, people should only offer rational suggestions focused on your health and everyone's health in general. Love you, girl.

Rideit - stay the fuck home if you love your family. I'm not digging the fact my daughter thinks she and her son have it. You don't want to know how that feels.
