Polis just shutdown all restaurants and bars statewide. This hysterical reaction is absolutely stoopid.

No, you’re stoopid. Polis is doing a great job leading through this crisis.

How about a review of how serious this pandemic really is. The over reaction is just not justified.

Apparently Chile is on total lock down. Borders sealed. No one in, or out.

But, they also have some social/political problems, and it’s still a question if they can keep the protestors off the streets with a plebiscite to vote on their constitution previously scheduled for April 3rd.

    Could be extra ugly.

How about it gets real tiring to continue trying to educate fucking morans like you. Shove your head further up your ass, cloister yourself in your TP castle, and wait for things to pass. Silently if possible.

If this trend holds up, the curve is already starting to flatten out - which would be great news for everyone!

    What if this were true?

    **** SPECULATION FOLLOWS ****

    (As I've posted before: )
Over half the deaths in the entire USA are in King County (37).
Of those, 78% (29) are associated with Life Care Center of Kirkland.
    https://www.kingcounty.gov/depts/hea.../15-covid.aspx
From my reading of their website, LCC Kirkland is a nursing home that specializes in elderly patients fresh out of the hospital from major operations.
I can't find statistics from today,

Also recall that the viral rumor about Seattle (King County) ERs being overwhelmed is also bullshit:
    https://twitter.com/CT_Bergstrom/sta...48331186249728

It could be that Covid-19 has been spreading in America, and in King County in particular, for much longer than we think it has - and that a lot of people have already had it, figured they just had the flu or not noticed anything at all, and recovered just fine.
It could also be that many of the cases of "seasonal flu" this year have actually been from Covid-19.
Either way, this would mean we're a lot farther along the infection curve than we thought, and that Covid-19 is less deadly here in the US than in China or Italy.

Why might this be? Covid-19 preferentially attaches to what are called ACE-2 receptors. Skipping a lot of complicated biochemistry, East Asians have a lot more ACE2 receptors, smokers have a lot more ACE2 receptors, and heavy air pollution has a similar effect to smoking. The majority of Chinese people smoke, something like 3/4 of Asian men smoke, and pollution in Chinese cities is some of the worst in the world.

As we test more for Covid-19, we'll find more cases...but we'll also find that the death rate has plummeted. Even in China, the death rate outside Wuhan looks much more like the seasonal flu:
    https://www.npr.org/sections/goatsan...nging-in-china
"Outside of Wuhan — the city at the epicenter of the outbreak — the death rate in China has been much lower: about 0.7%. That's fewer than 1 fatality per 100 cases.
Similarly, a study released by China's Center for Disease Control last month found that if you factor out all the data from Hubei province, where Wuhan is located, the fatality rate in the rest of China drops to 0.4%."

Once again, this is speculation...but if it's true, it means we've all been whipped into a panicked frenzy over something no worse than the seasonal flu, from which 15,000 to 60,000 people die every year. (Average, over 30,000.)
    https://www.cdc.gov/flu/season/past-flu-seasons.htm
This has happened to a number of people I’ve talked to. And my daughter did have the flu (tested) about 5 weeks ago and then had some fever/sore throat/cough about 3 weeks ago...we were saying the same thing yesterday. Maybe it has been running through the population for awhile.

I still think we need to overact and just be apart for awhile.

Yeah, the reality doesn’t match the hysteria. If this was 30 years ago before 24/7 media, there would not be this reaction to shutdown the world and kill the economy.

The warning from the nation’s largest university, with some 40,000 students, applies “especially” to students staying in nations with “poorly developed health services,” as well as countries, “for example the USA,” with a “poorly developed collective infrastructure.”

The alert notes it can be difficult in the U.S. to “get transport to the airport if you don’t have a car.” It added, apparently referring to “poorly developed health services,” that, “The same applies if you don’t have health insurance.”

So much for thinking the USA was 2nd world status, but nope, 3rd world for America!

My daughter had an illness in January the doctor tabbed as flu. Test came back negative and he said she’d be well in a day or two. Had low grade fever 4 days later. He then thought the test was faulty...so it’s crossed our minds.

March 9, one week ago there were 100,000 cases and ~4000 deaths for COVID-19. March 16 it's 180,000+ and 7,000+ deaths. More cases reported just today alone in the US than we had total on March 9.

Just saying you may want to wait and run those numbers when we are more than 2 months in to a global outbreak when comparing across diseases from which we have mult-year data sets.

Did you know it is estimated 2-3 Billion people are infected with TB? 1/3 of the world. Spent 12 yrs working on TB and could never wrap my head around those numbers. And there has been a vaccine since the 1920's.

Realistically (and imo) SARS-CoV2 will likely be no more than a higher-virulent flu strain once year 2-3 hits and both herd immunity and a vaccine (hopefully) put limits on it. But in the short term, it's still running at best a 1%-2% mortality rate, or 10-20X higher than a typical flu (<0.1%) with as much or potentially greater transmissibility.
Move upside and let the man go through...
