Around here they put the dog down if that happens. No debate or trial, it's a done deal. I'd feel terrible to lose my good buddy that way.

After dealing with the Mt Everest sized pile of mulch in my driveway for a few weeks while I carted it away wheelbarrow load by wheelbarrow load, I realized that wasn't the best way, either. So last year I hired the truck that comes and you blow the mulch into place with a giant hose. WAY better.

Back in the old days you could count on a neighbor to help you; now they just step over your dead body and keep on going.
(Here's a true story--at the VA hospital an elevator door opens and a man falls out, having a grand mal seizure, foaming at the mouth, incontinent, the whole works. Medical resident, going home at the end of his day, steps right over the guy into the elevator and presses down. I saw that one*. Or another true story that was in the newspaper--a dead man rode up and down an elevator in a wheelchair at the VA in Chicago all day, finally noticed by someone getting into the elevator the next morning.)

*in case you're wondering what I did to help--I was a junior med student, I just hovered over the guy and pretended to be useful.
