What are the fees besides local lodging tax and a cleaning fee?
What are the fees besides local lodging tax and a cleaning fee?
I'm guessing but $100 cleaning fee, 18% hotel tax (based my sf rate), and 8% to Airbnb for their cut, all together gets you to about 500. It sucks it's not more transparent
An annoying corollary: bikes on the street when there's a well maintained, unoccupied by feet or wheels, super wide 2 lane, freshly surfaced bike path over to the side.
I do crazy shit as a pedestrian on the side walk with bikes, as you well know, but she's a whole other level - she crazy.
There is a hipster Electric Skateboarder that I see frequently while driving the last few blocks of my morning commute in downtown Seattle who manages to get into 4 or 5 sidewalk altercations per block.
I am hoping very much to see him getting his clock cleaned by someone soon.
The stupid constant debate of skinny vs. fat skis....on a certain other ski site...and the insistence that if you ski a >78 width ski you can’t ski.....or are just trying to look cool. So ridiculous.....
I seriously can’t stand that shit......(it’s why I’m posting in an annoying thread). I know I should just not read it.....but I can’t help it.....it’s entertaining and annoying at the same time.

You obviously can't deliberately hit someone no matter who has the right of way, but the "I didn't see them until the last second" or "they swerved in front of me" defense would work better if they are in the wrong, I would think.
Gee, I was pretty happy with the way I said it. You make it sound so banal.
I need to get over there and check it out. The handful of times I've been there it's been nothing but sweetness and light. If people are getting testy it might be worth another look, assuming we're talking about the same site (the only one I know of).
What annoys me tonight--24 hour allergy pills, 8 hour pain pills that don't last the advertised length of time. I want pills that maintain a constant blood level until it's time to take the next one when the level drops suddenly to zero. I know that's a ridiculous thing to ask but it's what I want so why can't I have it?
All those fees are clearly listed, and they give you the total for your stay including all fees before you even click on the page for the property. Cleaning fees work out better for longer stays. If you are just staying a night or two, they do suck but are necessary. Sometimes you might be able to talk to owner into waiving them for shorter stays.
Fees and taxes aren't listed or totaled until you click on the day for the property. At least not here. Many times there is an extra guest fee as well.
Lots of times, the listed rate you see is their base rate and specific dates may be more expensive. That happens a lot. You'll see the totals before you plunk down your money, but it's definitely not very transparent in terms of easy comps unlike booking.com for hotels
the point being that no one wants to have the price almost double when they've been searching at a rate that was half...it's a waste of time and makes the renter angry at the prospect of being ripped off with stupid fees that are secondary to actually renting the place
it's one thing to tack on 15% or something...75% is bad advertising
if you were searching a higher rate, THEN a break down showing the fees afterwards would assuage the feeling of being raped by a high number..."oh, I see they have costs...sure"
this could all be packaged into the rate
cleaning fees always apply
a security deposit could be ID'ed but not charged unless damage is proven (by then they have your CC info)

It’s not nasty/testy.....it’s just annoying listening/reading to their constant stupid posts about “if you are a “true skier”......you have to ski a <80 width ski.
Stupid.....annoying...sorry, long week of school....
I may have stated my annoyance before (which is annoying itself), but: people who spit on the sidewalk. When did this become acceptable???
I was just walking to get a coffee and saw two people spit on the sidewalk. Don't people understand how disgusting that is...obviously, not.
It makes perfect sense...until you think about it.
I suspect there's logic behind the madness, but I'm too dumb to see it.
Why are baseball players always spitting? When they were chewing tobacco it made sense. It makes sense if they're eating seeds. But most of these guys just sit there and spit for no discernible reason. what up widdat.
If it's green, smoke it...if it's pink, poke it

Had to put new tires on my car. I purchased online.
I call the place that's up the street from where I work, and I say "Hey, I have some tires I need to get mounted and balanced to my rims." They say "Well, for insurance and liability reasons, we can't mount and balance tires purchased online. If you have a problem with that you can talk to the owner."
Which seemed a little aggro. That was literally the entire dialogue to that point. I just say "...oh.. ok?" He doubles down with "it's for insurance and liability reasons, we just can't do it." Which puts this into shit that has annoyed me, because why tell me a bunch of bullshit? What's the point? So I tell him that's clearly bullshit, but if they just don't want the piece of my business that's available that's cool, I'll call somewhere else. Why would I want a shop to take care of my tires if they don't want to be taking care of my tires?
He doesn't want to let it go, though, so he says "well it's like a restaurant. If you brought your own food in, the chef would probably throw it in your face."
Well, no, it's not like that. I tell him that. It's either a service that they offer or it's a service that they don't offer. In the past, they offered it. Now they have decided not to. That's cool, it isn't my business, have a nice day. Good enough, you might think. But no....
"Listen, if you have a problem with it, you can talk to the owner about it..........." I hung up.
All the power to this tiny shop in a small town in Michigan to further reduce their apparently dwindling business in their bid to combat internet sales. I hope that works out for them. But they could work on their messaging a little.... Maybe "We focus all of our time and attention on customers who buy their tires from us. Next time give us a chance on your tire business and even if we can't beat the price (we'll try) we'll make up for it in service." or half a dozen others that readily come to mind....
Whatever. Still annoyed. "You can talk to the owner if you have a problem with it." Dude, I'm not even interested in finishing this conversation, what makes you think I want to talk to the owner, too?
Maybe I should give the owner a call and bitch to him.....
focus.
