Granted, they transmit more vibration, but all you have to do is put your did on edge.

Same discussion as with DH bikes vs. trail bikes. Of course you can ride down a DH track on a trail bike. But DH bike is just much more fun and does not fall apart after one week doing so.

An FX 106 HD that replaces metal with carbon. I have to admit, the 2018 already piqued my interest as a Hakuba resort/side-country ski. I can't imagine any reason as to why I'd prefer the metal for my duty.

Damn. That was a hard pill to swallow, but it does make complete sense.
Dav's been putting a lot of time on the 106HP in Japan and some days here in Aspen. Seems like a versatile ripper!

I don't agree with the competition with downhill bikes.

I ride a180 mm travel bike to go on steep, rocky trails.

I ski the mtn binding in steep couloirs, powder or corn.

    No limitations at all

I don't take air when i ski in the backcounty, because most of the terrain i like is no fall.

Also, i think the mtn at least it's a lot more durable and less prone to pre releases than the shift, marker kingpin or the tecton.

This is from what i read on tgr.

Less confident about the tecton, but pretty sure about the marker or shift.

    The mtn is bomber

That's great that you like the mtn pin. I have a bunch of pin bindings, including a pair of mtns, and I like them too.

But they don't ski anything like a set of P18s.

    Gear rumors 19/20

I haven’t heard anyone complain about Tectons pre-releasing. I’ve taken some decent airs on them and have yet to experience it even once.

I ski pivots, but since my bc setup includes boots, i have no idea how they compare. Alpine boots, Alpine bindings, alpine skis vs bc boots, bindings and skis.

Maybe ski one on each foot?

But I'm not interested enough to find out.

I pre released from the toe on kingpins semi regularly while tectons have been without issue on 2 sets of skis pushed hard all season. very different performance envelope ime.

I agree with the Shift Freeride Bike Comparison. Does a few things really well but what most people use it for is an incorrect application.

Put me in the camp that isn't that enamored with the Shift. I have about 15 days on my pair and I think they definitely have a place in the world but there is a very small window where they make a lot of sense. They just don't tour as well as more dedicated touring setups. Transitions are harder, they build up ice, likely less durable than many options, and the weight matters at some point. I wouldn't want them for my only touring setup, nor would I trust them for hard inbounds use (over the course of years).

I have a set on some Line Pescado's and absolutely love them for the application. They get used for short powder touring laps and on powder days at some resorts. However, I have Renegades with Salomon MTN Pins and Bibby's with STH's as my primary setups.

Kingpins released on me a few times as well, but yeah, so far so good with Tectons after what must be an equal number of days by now.

I'd say the same for the MTN pin claims.
TLDR; Ski faster. Quit breathing. Don't crash.

Heh. Sorry no pics but I’ll make sure it happens next time. By decent airs I just mean like 8-10 feet, nothing big but certainly enough to test the binding’s retention. Granted all of these drops were in powder so...

Agreed. Same with Vipecs. Been regularly hitting the pretty big airs in my 15/16 video (see sig) for the past few years with no issues.

I still won’t hit larger hardpack airs tho, mostly cuz I only trust that alpine bindings are built to handle the abuse of those kinds of impacts (its a mental thing for me).

Any rumors of Voile making a longer strap to use as a belt?
